What triggers your MMA nostalgia?

1993 was an amazing year in my youth. Phillies in the world series; John Kruk, Mitch Williams, Darren Dalton, Lenny Dykstra and the rest - one of the most exciting summers I can remember. Now every time I watch a Phillies game I think of those guys and that year, and Royce Gracie blowing my mind making bigger dudes give up.

Lost to the Blue Jays that year! Not that I was old enough to remember. Baseball-wise, wouldn't '08 be a more memorable year for you?

Hearing any of the UFC Undisputed 2009 soundtrack

Seeing any of the classic brands (Bad Boy, Tapout, Warrior, Sprawl, etc) at the local gym or tournament.

Honestly - when one of the Japanese orgs (usually Rizin) has a quasi freakshow fight with either ex-sumo guys or pro wrestlers or both. The fights are riveting as usually both guys have non-existent ground games and comically bad stand-up and gas tanks.

But the fights almost universally have strong "this reminds me of Paul Varelans" energy which is both undeniable and intoxicating.

Hendo came out to Lunatic Fringe too. A big American wrestling staple.

Tank Abbott.

I started watching UFC at UFC 1 but I wasn't truly hooked until UFC 6. Back then almost nobody knew anything about actual MMA. This Matua guy was a master of "bone crushing". I was 16 so was like that a bad motherfucker, master of bone crushing. Then Tank completely destroyed him....lol

Great shout, when Withers died last year the song was everywhere again, i couldn't help myself muttering "who turnt off the lights" under my breath.
