So I was planning a road trip with really had no destination in mind, but decided hey i've never been the the Grand Canyon so fuck it.

Will take a morning to drive there, one day to explore, and drive back the next day. I've haven't really done any research but I figure it's best to hear it from people who've been there personally.

Is there a problem with going there in December? Also can you just walk around the Canyons that you see in all the postcards and shit or do you have to pay some sort of park guide? Also what else would there be to do if boredom struck at the park? Cool places to go eat or drink in the vicinity of the park?

Also what are any costs besides gas, food etc that I'm associated with this trip that i'm not accounting for? I'm poor.

If you don't hike it or do a helicopter ride it's almost impossible to spend more than a couple hours there.

You just look at it, and take a photo or two.

Yeah but are you like allowed to walk to the edge and stuff just on your own or do you have to pay?

Thanks Bob, this doesn't help.

As for the hiking, are you allowed to just park somewhere and traverse the trails and park (i'm just assuming it's a park) on your own?

If I remember you pay to get into the park, and it's like 2 hours from flag staff.

Once you're in there you park and look around but you can hike.

I remember hiking there with this Dutch girl I was dating at the time. She had a backpack so I assumed she had water, on the way down we were making fun of all the signs warning you about dehydration. We got quite far and I asked her for some water....she didn't have any.

It was a shitty hike back up.

Last time I was in Phoenix my moms friend flew us over in a private plane.

The parking area is basically on the edge. There's a bunch of trails.

Damn this story brought back memories. I had a friend from my neighborhood in grade school who had grandparents take him to the Grand Canyon over summer vacation. Same deal with the water and he ended up dying. I haven't thought about that in years

You need a pass to hike into the GC, but not to hike along the rim - which would be very boring.

I only considered going there and taking a touristy picture where you see the huge crater and whatnot. Will definitely consider going in.

Have any of you guys been in the wintertime? Would we need snow chains?

You're entry fee into the park takes care of parking, which you can do in any lot (there are tons).

Even if you can't make a res or don't have the time to hike into GC - it can be done in a day, but it's not easy, it's a good idea to check it out; just make plans to go back into flagstaff.

Winter is the best time imo. The snow gives the necessary contrast to appreciate it from the rim.

Touristy pic and then drinks in Flag is a fun day.

Well you definitely can't party there if that's what you're thinking.

No hookers, no blow, no alcohol, no sex

Enjoy!

Any recommendations for cool bars or shit to do in a day at Flagstaff?

Google is your friend. There is a university in flagstaff so I bet there's a few. I remember there is a brewery we went to after doing a week long trip in the canyon.

When I went to the canyon we did all the tourist shit like the sky walk, and some village tour, where me and my partner stumbled upon a muso type
Blazing up at the pioneer village. So to brake the ice I asked the muso what's the name of this house (each little cabin had a name) he replied " the smoke house" then we all blew clouds together
