Imagine your girlfriend thinks you are cheating on her and drives over to your house and spray paints "CHEATER" all over your car.

What's the punishment? idk civil complaint, restraining order + let police do their thing

What you for sure don't get to do, is go beat the fucking shit out of her on the street, right?

I'd be livid if I found some kid spray painting shit on my house. But as a grown man, I know I'd have to have the self restraint to not attack and beat the kid up knowing he's a minor and not posing a physical threat to me or my family.

There's a caveat though. A lot of kids these days absolutely give zero fucks about authority, etc. When I was a kid we'd pull pranks and do dumb shit but we knew if we got caught we were in trouble. Seems like we've now got a lot of teens that straight DGAF if they get caught. We had a ton of car thefts happening a few years back by teens. When they did get caught and arrested, they mostly gave the cops the finger and said "I'll be out in an hour when my mom gets here, I'm a minor and they'll let me go so fuck you.". And...the kids were right. Barely ever got prosecuted even when they damaged the cars.
I bring that up because IF this is a situation (and it doesn't sound like it is because you'd probably have mentioned it) where the kid got caught, then didn't care and got an attitude and came at your neighbor first--then all bets are off. Minor or no, if you attack someone (even an adult) and get your ass beat that's on you. And while we'd never have dreamed of that as kids...it's commonplace now.

On the positive side (sort of) the habits that kids learn in their childhood and teens tend to persist in adulthood. Like if you're used to stealing shit, selling drugs and destroying property those habits don't just disappear because you've gone from 17->18. A lot of them just end up going in and out of prison for their entire lives. It's why it's so important as a parent to make sure your kids behave right early in life. In the moment it doesn't seem to matter as much because they won't get in serious trouble as juveniles, but on the long run all those habits make or break their adult life.

In fact who knows who comes after him if he does that ( remember critical thinking ) as look where it got Penn ,it totally backfired on him and ruined his relationship bc that kid was the girls nephew or son he was dating that he spray painted . When I was a kid (around 11 I think) me and a couple of friends would go in construction sites and spray walls. I dont even know why we did it, it was just stupid "fun". At least it wasnt painted walls, but as a grow ass man today I would be pissed if it happened to my construction.

I stopped doing that after one of the kids (same age) broke a water pipe and flooded a room. I knew it was wrong/bad, so I stopped to hang out with this kid afraid of getting caught up in something I didnt do (my father would belt the shit out of me). Smartest thing I did, this kid later:
1 - Was caught trowing dirt at a neighbor's pool
2 - Was caught taking a shit on a water tank of another neighbor's house.
3 - Was expelled of school cuz he blew a bomb with nails in the school's toilet (he was around 15 at this point).

Nowadays the kid is Lawyer and involved with politics, his platform is "tough on crime". lol

I think the kid should get some punishment, but something light like community service (maybe painting sprayed walls). Sometimes kids are just stupid and get better, sometimes they dont. I dont think heavy punishment solves it.

The adult.. I have no problem if he gave the kid some light cuffs/slaps, but if he beat the shit out of the kid he deserves some punishment too, he doesnt have the excuse of being a stupid kid.

Give them a mural to spray for the town make them feel they created something worth while , they won’t be tagging personal property anymore because they will then feel important if you give them some recognition.

Recreation or lack of is always the cause for mischief ( I can’t even say what I used to do ) tagging would be a day off it wouldn’t even rank in my top 5 . lol .

Easy fix is usually art ( I’m an artist myself ) wheather they are actually into art or just spaying stuff wouldn’t matter much when you create something it’s yours , doing a positive generally compromises doing negative, they can do community service and all that but it won’t fix the problem after awhile they’ll get bored again .

Not gunna stop the graffiti problem. Not everybody's an artist. Some simply want to put their name on something their not aloud to.
