Crime What should be his punishment?

Because enough kids haven’t had the shit beat out of them?

If we just give thieves stuff for free they wouldn’t steal! Problem solved.
But then you would have to beat them after they graffitied, no? Whats the point, they already did it.

The whole goal here is to PREVENT them from doing it in the first place.

Or are you going to guess which kid is going to graffiti the wall in the future and preemptively beat them?

Again, do you want to prevent walls being graffitied or to just beat kids after theyve done that?

Not to hijack the thread, but I also want to give a story I’d like input on.

Kid “A”, a 13 old kid on my street. Super nice, class president — just a great smart sweet kid overall. About a month ago, on the bus to school, a transfer kid(Kid B) was throwing a water bottle back and forth with another kid(Kid C). It hit Kid A and Kid A threw it back causing a small amount of the water to splash on Kid B.

Kid B takes out his phone, gives it to Kid C, and says “record this”. Kid B gets up, and without warning starts just wailing on Kid A for 2 minutes until the bus driver stops to break it up. Kid B then air drops the footage to everyone on the bus.

Kid A is left bloody and beaten.

The punishment? Kid B can’t ride the bus for a month.

That’s just unacceptable to me.

What should the punishment for Kid B be?

Context: Kid A is my neighbors kid.

This is not about art. This is about the thrill of doing something "bad" it may be to impress friends or just for the rush it gives. The same as most boys (and some girls) look for in their teens. Some don't out grow that they just look for legal was to get it.

I was a hard core adrenaline junkie long into my adulthood. At my age now I have learned to control it, well 90% of the time anyway.

I never destroyed others property.
Ive done much worse then this ,this is isn’t that serious it’s spray paint I can list several other things they could’ve done but the under lying problem is the cause to how to fix it not punish beyond community service ( I actually enjoyed mine ) not everyone has critical thinking skills ,it doesn’t take much brain power to get angry ,most can’t actually fix problems,I doesn’t matter why they did it that’s Trump logic right there .

How about we just fix the problem instead ? Lol

Vandals can’t go unpunished. Rewarding vandalism creates more vandalism.

Give them a mural to spray for the town make them feel they created something worth while , they won’t be tagging personal property anymore because they will then feel important if you give them some recognition.

Recreation or lack of is always the cause for mischief ( I can’t even say what I used to do ) tagging would be a day off it wouldn’t even rank in my top 5 . lol .

Easy fix is usually art ( I’m an artist myself ) wheather they are actually into art or just spaying stuff wouldn’t matter much when you create something it’s yours , doing a positive generally compromises doing negative, they can do community service and all that but it won’t fix the problem after awhile they’ll get bored again .

This is gang graffiti. They're not spray painting murals.

Reward the criminal

Giving them an outlet for their energy rewards the community and provides a potential path to learning how to become a well functioning member of society, whats the downside in that?

Create a program where the kid spends some time cleaning graffiti and he's rewarded with mentorship and direction for his artistic interests

Not every child has a strong support system, sometimes the village can step in and help them out which also helps the village in the long term

Maybe the kid is already lost to the streets and it wont help or maybe he can still turn his life around and become a good guy after all, at 14 years old its worth a shot

We've been having grafitti problems in my neighborhood for about 6 months. They keep tagging boxes and now theyre tagging walls of houses. At 9pm last night, we had a dozen cop cars over here because a neighbor caught a tagger doing his wall and he beat up the kid. The kid is like 13 or 14 years old. I wasnt there, just heard the news. They arrested my neighbor.

What should be his punishment?

My prediction is liberals here will want him punished to the full extent of the law while conservatives think he should get a medal.

Gulag in El Salvador.

I hope they bought Kid B an e-scooter so he can still get to school, at least

Is it the same line of thought that "We have to be tough on the war on drugs"?

Proved, extensively, not to produce the best results. You either give the incentives so the problem dont happen again or you are just trying to ice skate uphill. Do policies that REDUCE the problem, not just punish for the sake of punishment. You just want kids to keep graffiting so you can keep beating them without any visible improvement to the matter.

Should be less than the painting punk gets.

Kid B - Suspended and charges with battery.
Woulda given a little slack if he immediately snapped - not aftere setting up recording.

Your solution is to do nothing. The same answer to every problem liberals have. Your solutions have been tried in California and they're going bankrupt while the problem gets even worse.

Need to know the color of his skin before i can form an opinion.

I am all for creating programs and doing more.

I also am for punishing criminals.

EDIT: the punishment should only be a slap on the wrist here. 100 hours of community service.

You gotta a right to protect your property.

Ass beating is warranted as long as the kid isn't in the hospital on life support or some shit

Is this a Maga logic thing ?

Are you comparing assault to tagging ?

This is gang graffiti. They're not spray painting murals.
That wouldn’t change the reasoning , in fact it’s more of a reason to support the idea .Best way to pry someone away from any group is to give them individual acknowledgement of worth .

Do you think typical punishment is going to work for against long term solution ? If they were adults it’s different , I can’t run for any government position ( I’d never pass a background check ) but punishing is just actually ignoring the actual problem it’s not spay paints right ? It’s gangs according to you so is punishment’s actually going to stop it ? You know that answer . I know enough to know thinking outside the box is almost always best .
