What should be a gameplan for Poirier to beat Khabib?

Do people really think the only way to beat khabib is to be some kind of superstar wrestler? Khabib is very hittable and Dustin is a phenomenal striker with serious power. Why cant he win? Is khabib immune to being hurt with strikes?

Khabib has basically fought 4 strikers in recent memory/ his whole UFC career and possibly his whole mma career.

How the hell does that make any sense, Khabib finished Conor and Johnson, two strikers who destroyed Poirier in the first round. You can't possibly think that Poirier is a better striker than them, and he clearly doesn't have a better TDD either. Also Barboza is a top striker with solid TDD, and it didn't help him at all.

Hardcore cheating offense like someone else said. Khabib will be too proud/angry to take a DQ win. Punch the same eye you poked. Go for body shots after you destroy his balls.

Every round starts on the feet. If DP doesn’t get discouraged by the early takedowns and subsequent smash (which is inevitable to a degree) and deeply keeps believing that he can win, then he will deliver the late tko. He’s a warrior

Not shitting yourself before the fight like Conor. Lol just kidding. How others said, be more agressive, not afraid to be taken down. Use elbows and knees.

Blitz right iff the bat, and hope he hurts him

Keep it in the center of the cage and make Khabib work for the TDs and for the dominant ground position.

Well obviously the longer he can keep it standing, the better, because he has legit hands and power. He has that advantage over Khabib.

However if he gets taken down, rather than expending energy by trying to cause damage off his back, I think he should just try not to take damage and save himself for the next round which also starts standing. He has to find the best way to carry that power into the later rounds and that is by conserving energy. He simply has to do as much as he can while he’s standing and that’s it.

He can avoid takedowns by trying to dominate the centre of the octagon. Khabib isn’t as good at getting takedowns without the fence to help him.

Khabib will respect his power so lots of feints and angles will help. He has to play on whatever negative thoughts Khabib may have.

get ufc to allow him to use pig skin for his gloves.

Al Iaquinta provided the blueprint.

Blueprint to what? Make yourself a punching bag and let Khabib punch you until the canvas is filled with your blood?

Conor showed a better blueprint for beating Khabib, but then only someone like Ferguson would be able to pull it off and outlast Khabib after he slowed down.

Knee him in the face. It's not like Khebab has ultra fast double legs that you can't see coming. He usually leans forward to go for singles. BAM! Knee in face!

Agreed, Iaquinta was defending well against Khabib’s takedowns but he did absolutely nothing offensively. Conor actually took a round from Khabib but I also think it was part of Khabib’s gameplan to let McGregor have it, work more and get more tired. We saw what happened in the 4th after that.

The concept is sound, but that's easier said than done. Problem with this tactic is that Khabib will be able to drive Dustin all the way to the cage if he grabs a leg in the center.

In this .gif Al isn't exactly standing in the center, but he doesn't have his back against the cage either. Khabib grabs his leg and drives him all the way to the cage and it seems like he still had enough momentum to drive Al even further, had Al been standing in the center.

Dustin's team will have him prepared. Even in a loss, I see this going down as a good fight....people sleeping on poirier.
This is a 25 minute fight. He needs to hold his own and make khabibby work the first 15. Championship rounds start( if it gets there), khabib can get hurt. Hes a man and one dimensional at that ( meaning hes human when standing).

He didn't manage to get him down in that third round, and I assure he wanted him down the whole time. He also didn't have much luck taking Al down after the second round.

Khabib is going to have to stand with Dustin at some point in this fight. And that's going to be dangerous, because Dustin is a lot better than him on the feet.

Conor cheated wildly to keep standing in the 3rd.
The rest of the fight, when Khabib wanted to get Conor down, he did, without much difficulty either.

Khabib barely made attempts to get Al down in rd 3 and 4. It's not like he kept shooting and failing- IIRC he made about 1 serious attempt every round.
In the 5th, when he really committed to it, he again got Al down and dominated him on the ground.

I don't see Dustin having as much luck shucking Khabib off, until he is too tired to land his power shots.
If he starts winging them with bad intention, I think he is just getting take down faster.

He should stand in front of him for 3 rounds and do nothing.

Then unleash hell in rounds 4 and 5.

Khabibs entire gameplan revolves around beating up tired fighters.

Dustin has that childish fire inside him, that can help him through some tough moments in the fight.
