What should be a gameplan for Poirier to beat Khabib?

Realistically, Dustin doesn’t have lots of chances to beat Khabib. Khabib already fought strikers which have a similar style to Poirier and he easily defeated them.

So what should be a gameplan for Poirier to beat Khabib? I wrote some thoughts on this topic here: https://khabibmcgregor.com/khabib-vs-poirier-predictions/.

Basically I see the only chance for Poirier to win is to take a risk, go all-in and try to KO Khabib early in the 1st or 2nd round.

Do you see any other scenario of how Poirier can beat Nurmagomedov?

Stuff his take downs and put hands to his face. Easy

Punch him a lot, avoid TDs, scramble when necessary, and make it a dirty dog fight.

Not get punched in the face, because that apparently ruins gameplans.

Stop the takedown and EASILLY beat him up on the feet.

I see Dustin by late Tko in this fight. His cardio is there. His striking is dynamic and he has power.

He has a good ground game too.

Styles make fights and I see this as khabibs toughest matchup.

He will get beat up in this fight even in victory imo

This'll be what costs him the match. He likes to accept TDs and hop up for guillotines too much. RDA did the same shit. So did MJ.

He’s already won by just getting this far.

    Takedown defense and stamina.

If 'Po Boy Poirier can handle these things well then we all know he can win with his hands.

It works on guys who leave their neck out asking for it. But not on guys grinding their skull into you. Problem is he's gotten that guillotine a few times earlier in his career, so it has become a fail safe.

I'm conflicted. One of my coaches trained with Dustin and I almost always gun for local fights...but Khabib is a fucking freak of nature and seeing him dominate makes it hard to cheer against him.

take the centre and pressure him, avoid getting his back against the cage, Khabib is so much better as a wrestler when his opponent is against the cage. that's the main method imo.

Style make fights and Dustin has a very similar style to McGregor. Yes, his grappling is better than Conor’s but takedown defense is weak. How is he going to stop Khabib’s takedowns when he has 69% takedown defense against mostly strikers?

The gameplan against Khabib is the same for every fighter in 155 but tony, avoid takedown, and pray to find his chin like
Michael Johnson did-but this time finish the job.

Survive 25 minutes and call it a moral victory and having done better than Mcgregor did

    Because there’s no other way

Stuff take down if taken down, use jiu Jitsu to his fullest, get back up and smesh him on the feet. lol. Hard to say, but Khabib will be a handful for any game plan

Did you know that Poirier has 69% takedown defense. Keep in mind he mostly fought pure strikers as well. How is he going to stop Khabib?

This is such bad analysis I wonder how long you've even been watching MMA.

Dustin has probably some of the worst TDD in the whole division. This is one of Khabib's easiest matchups. In fact, Khabib's probably gameplanning for Ferguson and using this as a warm up match.

Dirty boxing that he is very good at, he should presure him like Cejudo did and not give him any space while taking the center of octagon.

Does Dustin have the worst ground game in the division? Striking?
