What knife did you carry today?

I carried this bad ass:

(from the drawer to the dining table). 1.5 ounces of stainless steel, silver-plated, congealed-dairy-produce spreading sweet, sweet butter knife. Those unbuttered slices of toast were giving me mad respect, because they knew I was the kind of tough guy who could have them buttered in one second flat with that bad boy.

that some mad cutlery ya packing there. gotta love the silverware, lethal in the right hands.

Has anyone used the Emerson designed Kershaw CQC-6K?

I'm thinking of picking it up since it's just $33 and the wave feature seems cool.

I picked up one of the CQC-5K's a couple of weeks ago and have been carrying it on the daily since then. It's a bit smaller than the CQC-6K and has a frame lock instead of a liner lock, which I prefer as a lefty. It came from the factory with a nice edge on it, which took only minimal stropping on my part to make very sharp.

I'm very pleased with the knife so far, and am really enjoying the Wave feature in particular. I've been wanting an Emerson for a long time, but for budget reasons have always opted for cheaper knives. The Kershaw made a nice compromise at $32 shipped from Amazon.

Pictures in the spoiler tags due to size.

I prefer the subtleness and practicality of a pen to a knife. You can stab with it, sign with it, fits nicely in a pen protector (very stylish and sophisticated), and inexpensive. I would carry one of these high-quality Bic pens over a knife any day of the week.

Agreed but I wouldn't mind sheath carry so that my pockets don't get destroyed by the g10.

Sound advice, I have destroyed many a pants pocket over the years.

Tough to cut much with that though. And I pretty much just use my knife for, you know, cutting stuff.

I'm currently very happy with my CQC-7 and sometimes a ESEE Candiru as neck knife or stuffed into some pocket.

I remember last year at the college, while training for my current job, this woman in my class vehemently criticized my carrying of a knife (even though successful completion of the program and subsequent hiring would have us carrying guns) asking questions like, "what do you need that for?" or making comments like, "that's a weapon!" to which I would reply, "it's for cutting stuff."

When she finally came around at the end of the program and purchased her own knife (albeit an S&W ), after virtually every instructor carried or suggested carrying a knife, especially while working because opening and looking through packages is part of the job, I couldn't help but coyly rub it in her face.

We became and remain pretty good friends.

BTW Sonny, she was from Van.

:P

Which reminds me of another story from the college, involving a different student, when we were off campus (probably drinking, I don't remember the exact details or circumstances) and we were outside in the dark, we ended up looking for something I don't recall either, when I used my flashlight to locate it. That's when someone asked me, "why are you carrying a flashlight, when we're not even in uniform or wearing our duty belts?"

"so I can see things when it's dark, didn't you find it useful just now?"

People that don't have to ask why you're carrying a knife/flashlight/Leatherman/ASP/... are usually 50+ years old, work a physical job or are good, practical people that I like having around.

I was at my grandparents' house last year and wanted to use my grandpa's workshop to bend the clip of my Super CQC-8 back to normal. After I returned from the bathroom my grandma had the knife in her hand and asked me, how she was supposed to close it. I explained how a linerlock works and she praised the "great knife" I had there. She then asked my younger cousin if something like that was for him and he answered "No, it's dangerous! And what would you need it for anyway?!"

This is what the kitchen knives look like there btw. My grandpa used a pretty rough sharpening stone on those knives before cutting anything...May he rest in peace. He can be sure that I keep all his knives sharp!

I find that spyderco g10 is a little less aggressive but the g10 on my Emersons is quite coarse.

i 'adjust' the g10 on emersons when i have one. i cant handle the coarseness.

I took some fine grit sandpaper to my last one, the rubbed the scales on my garadge rug. Didnt change the look but brought the texture down to about a typical spyderco pm2 feel. much better.

Vancouver hippie mentality.

I heard those s&w's suck ass.

Too bulky for edk but this one is rarely far from my reach. It was a present from a really good friend, so the atachment is mostly sentimental. But it's a gerber and it's got the harley shield on it, so I love it. And it comes in handy sitting in the door of my jeep.
