I always carry my SOG Seal Pup when I take my dog on runs at night. Never know when a coyote will pop up.

Otherwise I carry a small Coast folder that i got at Wal mart for 5 bucks. even if it breaks or something I have 3 of them.

Just got this in yesterday. Cold Steel Recon 1 micro.
Great key chain knife. Will fit easily in any pocket

I need a solid knife for when i run at night. Where i'm moving is in the middle of no where and a lot of coyotes. What do ya guys suggest?

Baton might be a better option. Is it legal to carry one where you live? Lot of Coyotes where I live.

In terms of a knife, how large are you willing to go? I would recommend a fixed blade in this situation but you don't want a 15 inch Bowie on your waistband when you're out for a run. LOL!

I agree with the above poster. I've been running at night for almost 7 years now, late in the AM. I'm from a decently populated town in NWI by Chicago, what it translate to is a LOT of big dogs. In Indiana, you can carry fixed blades and all that jazz, but regardless - I still carried a baton.

I wouldn't recommend a knife because you want the largest reach possible, it's just not applicable to try and stab a doberman. You will need force and mass to have even a chance to drive those guys away. Buy an expandable baton - look at Amazon to find good reviews. Once you have it, don't test it out on anything, those things are hollow and can dent easily, affecting the expandable mechanism; just flick it out a few times and think to yourself, "neat".

I don't carry anything anymore since I've never even came close to using it and it became a pain to hull around. The only time I've been chased aggressively by a dog with intent to bite was by a Chihuahua. However, I only saw it's shadow on the street, had headphones on, so in my mind that dog was HUGE. I sprinted like a mofo, looked behind me, I see a straggly little lap dog foaming at the mouth.

I was about to yo quiero kick him in the face and he bolted.

I carry three. One assisted opening Schrade with glass breaker and seatbelt cutter, one PoS folder I've had since I was 12 that has been ground down to next to nothing, and a United Cutlery karambit on the back of my belt.

Three knives every day? Seems a bit much.
Or are you saying you rotate those three?

I carried my Leatherman rebar today, my newest gadget. I like the blade they put on it.

sold the small version and picked up a large. enjoying it a lot.

I'd be scared to use such an expensive knife.

Very nice though.

lo. yeah......i was at first. Im getting more comfortable with it. its the idea of LOSING it that worries me. If i scratch it up i can always send it to CRK and have the blade re-finished, and the handles re-blasted so it will look new. but im finding that i like the looks of these with lots of pocket wear on them

this is my first venture into truly expensive knives. over the last year i have slowly worked my way up in price until i sold most of my knives and bought this. i freakin love it. hydraulic smooth, amazing fit and finish.

First had cheapos, then tried a benchmade grip, several spydies ending with a pm2, the tried some ti framelocks, got a ZT0550, traded several knives for a small sebenza.....too small, bought a ZT0560 WAY big......sold both and bought large seb

when i started this venture i never imagined that i would buy a knife so expensive.......but im finding that that prefer having this one knife, over several cheaper ones. There are plenty of crazy fools out there that own 5, 10, 15 knives in the $400 plus range, or that buy $1000 customs. some of the knives are amazing, but damn, thats a lot of money

oops rambling

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I started with spydies and benchmade a with the odd kershaw thrown in here and there. Then I sprung for a 110 dollar spydie Superleaf and thought I would never buy anything more expensive than that.

Fast forward to now and I currently have 5 Emersons in my collection ranging from 150 to 200 bucks each(two of them were gifts).

Most knife guys say that a Sebbie is a must have for any collection and as it turns out my local knife shop now carries CRK's so the SMALL Sebbie is on my list. They sell like hot cakes though.

Customs are a whole other thing though. I see some custom Emersons going for thousands of dollars on eBay. It's like watches, I can appreciate the higher end models but I'm not sure i could drop that kind of money on a watch or a knife.

small sebs are really great edc knife imo.....i have large hands so i ended up liking the large 21 better in hand. still like the small better in pocket though. you can get a small seb on ebay under 300 bucks too. i got my large on ebay for about 350 and it was "like new" so i was pretty happy with that

the only custom i have on my radar as this point is an el patron. 475 will be a leap for me but i will get one eventually. still, for a custom its actually on the 'cheap' side

i like it because, while they are one-off and have custom options, they still look like they are begging to be used, to me. rugged looking, and purportedly very well made

I'm assuming its titanium handled? What kind of steel is the blade?
