What is your honest opinion on Jon Jones

To compare it to Boxing given it has the longer history to use this as an example, in 20 years no one cares about the bullshit attached, we only discuss it because it's current.

So many greats have negative stories attached to their careers, bottom line is what matters are the fights themselves.

Jones is the GOAT if he retires right now.

I used to love him. Saw the Bonnar fight and became a fan.

Then around the rampage fight I stopped liking his ass. I hated him as time went on and I wanted him to lose bad.....now he’s the last one left of the old time so I love him. I want him to never lose

In terms of fighting ability and potential he is amazing. On terms of actually testing himself against the best not so much.

For me to consider him on a human being scale he would have to display redeeming human qualities.

You're trying to discredit his legacy by saying he is ducking the two most dangerous KO artist guys that weren't even in his original weight class.....but something tells me you're a Khabib fan and don't apply that same logic to Khabib ducking GSP at a time when fighting GSP would be the exact equivalent of the Stipe that Jones just fought...and Khabib was still not willing to do it because he had like a literal phobia on the DSM-5 about moving up in weight, even against an insanely inactive 40 year old that has virtually the same walk around weight.

Imagine if Jones was like "I want to fight you Stipe! But only if you cut to 205 for the first time ever!" It sounds so fucking disgusting and ridiculous but that's exactly what Khabib did, sadly enough.
 
Possibly the best martial artist I've ever seen. Beat up world class fighters after weekends of cocaine and/or partying. One of the best trash talkers in the sport. He has a ton of asterisks, but lost only to the ruleset and his own poor choices. He's my personal GOAT, but my goat list is strictly on how good of a martial artist you are, not what substances you use or choices that you make in your personal life.

If Jones gets KO'd by Aspinall he got beat by a younger, bigger guy in a weight class that wasn't the one Jones fought in almost his whole career.

If Jones were to somehow win, the repeated bullshit here is "Everyone will say Aspinall sucks anyway like they did Gane". Only that doesn't hold up under scrutiny. Gane had already been grapplefucked by a striker In title fight. Aspinall isn't gonna retire if he loses, he's very very likely to go back to knocking everyone out. Jones will retire and Aspinall has proven he's worlds better than the rest of the HW division.

Imagine Jones somehow beats Tom and retires. Aspinall wins the vacant belt and proceeds to defend a bunch of times in spectacular style. Jones will have an all time HW scalp on his wall and when Aspinall is wrecking everyone Jones can say "But not me, Tommy."

Acting like there's no upside for Jones is shortsighted as hell. And reeks of people making excuses for the fight not happening, as though they don't WANT it to happen. Which is sad for anyone who claims to like this sport.

And that is true. Aspinall will be champ win or lose vs jones. It will just have to take a shit load of the same fights over and over again for people to finally realize aspinall is good.

However, it’s also true that jones winning won’t do anything for him at that point in time. Aspinall loses, then wins the belt right after, and a shit load of title defenses in a shitty division might change that

Yes. And Jones should take that long view. There really isn't that much downside either. He technically has a loss already. Yes, a DQ but it's on his record so he's not protecting an "0" in his loss column. Getting KO'd by Aspinall isn't gonna change any minds about Jon's legacy either. People have made up their minds already. Either they've put aside his PED/outside the cage/eye pokes etc and he's the GOAT to them, or they already don't recognize his greatness so a loss won't matter.

If people REALLY look at it objectively, long term it's a no-brainer that Jones should take the fight even if he doesn't get every dollar he wants.
 
As a fighter... early on Jon made a fantastic career out of fighting guys where virtually always, Jon had the clear advantage(s). I think he easily had the physical attributes and skills to run the same record that he did even without pissing hot. So to me, it's pretty fucking stupid and makes no sense to cheat when you don't have to, but admittedly I'm not a sociopath either.

That being said, you'd have to be a special kind of stupid to think the ONLY times Jon got caught cheating coincidentally happened to be in fact the ONLY times he actually did cheat.

Jon's latter years will be remembered for the big fights that never happened, and his "lengthy" HW title reign will become another just another beautiful meme.

Jon wasted a lot of his prime years not fighting, and that's a massive disappointment to me. Jon is a rare fighter where despite all his successes and accomplishments, everyone still knows he could have done way more if he had the will and determination to prove himself instead of getting lazy and complacent.

That's why people get pissed off when a chance comes along for Jon to really prove he is the best and instead he acts like a fucking diva. He's so much like a damned teenager you just want to give him five across the eyes.

Even if he fought Big Frank, or Tom, or prime-Stipe and got completely flatlined, I'd still admire Jon just for trying. They're big fucking scary men where Jon's giving up advantages. I could respect that more than laying down ass-whoopings on Matyushenko and mid-life Stipe. There are just too many asterisks on Jon's resume for me personally to consider him the GOAT. To each his own.

As a person... if Jones was on fire I wouldn't piss on him to put it out. He deserves to get fucked by a cactus.
