In 1993, it was the submission and the guard.

In 1995, it was the takedown.

In 2000, it was the head kick.

In 2005, it was the jab.

In 2008, it was the straight cross.

In 2012, it was spinning kicks.

It 2015, it was movement and footwork.

What's next?

All that stuff has been around for decades.

The UFC may have been late to the party with all those techniques but Shooto and Pancrase were far more advanced in technical abilities in the early days. They were throwing high kicks and attempting heel hooks back in the late 80's and early 90's

If it's a revolutionary and unknown technique then it's not going to be created at Sherdog.

Who was the fighter who came into the UFC, and from bottom would hold guys in a triangle and elbow them for the entire round?

I want to say Ben Saunders but can someone confirm?

I thought that technique was going to have a big effect on the sport, but not so much.

Sorry TS, can't tell you.

It's a secret until :

" one fighter" has huge success with it in the Octagon.

Joe Rogan goes on about it during the fight and tells us over and over how effective yet underused it is in MMA.

All coaches jump on the bandwagon and implement this tactic with their fighters.

Said fighters also have success and this becomes a major trend.

At this point we'll all know.
