What is the ideal body type for MMA?

Depends on the fighting style.

Striker - Long and lean.

Wrestler - short and stocky.

If you’re only gonna wrestle then sure short n stocky is better, however when you have to deal with punches n kicks then long/lean > short/stocky

Anderson has the long limb, lean build. Jones is similar. GSP was pretty muscular in his prime, but he had the long lanky build before he put on the mass, He is 5'10 and has a 76' inch reach for reference. The doughy Fedor/Cain bodytype has been successful at HW, but not so much in the other weight classes. There are a few "mesomorph+fast twitch" types who have tremendous power, but it ends up hurting them in the later rounds like Rumble.

What do you think?

Tall/long/skinny

You can keep the opponent on the outside with better reach n most likely have a good cardio cause you’re not carrying extra fat/muscle

There isn’t one. Look at DC, GSP, Jones and Fedor.

I disagree with this, I just don't think NOT having the ideal body type stops greats from being great.

But I do think certain body types+styles definitely are advantageous

Depends on their style. The long lean but muscular seems to be the gold standard for top dynamic strikers.
Some short bulkier fighters are still good strikers but usually they are more about power than overall game.

I dont think there is an ideal type really

Skinny-fat Diaz wants your lunch money.

Just pertaining to the actual question, I'd say you're on right track with the start of your op- somebody who's got those long , dense but malleable limbs(not muscular but substance- anderson- Jones like you mentioned). Fabricio perfect example as cordeiro showed him the m-thai monster he could be with what he had to work with. He went from fish floppn on canvas inviting people into his guard into a moving forward m-thai destruction ball.

Rose Namajunas vs Jessica Andrade will be a test of two very different body types. Am I hearing that the champ is the odds underdog?

Ideal in buns dept = Holly Holm, Ilima-nator

Both long arms and short arms have their advantages . Guys with shorter arms have more power in their hooks, and uppercuts(Tyson and Marciano). They can really put their whole bodyweight in such a short motion. And they have the advantage when it comes to ground and pound. Long Arms are better for straight rights, and crosses. I'm not sure if my reach is average or long being 6'1 with 76 inch reach

People like GSP and Rashad Evans who seem to be compact and extremely explosive while having long reach at the same time.

Jones style of body, because it's the best for cardio when you want to fight in main events, if you like earning that prelim $$$$ then stick with the overrated steroid looking bods like gsp.
