I don't think he's in his prime anymore. He may physically still be but not mentally. Not after that beating. The problem is I don't like his chances at lightweight. There are bigger well rounded wrestlers like arman, ismagulov and gamrot. Plus poirier will always be a thorn in his side.

Worse still if Alex gets the belt. At 45 his matchups aren't sexy enough. Arnold allen? Wtf? Topuria? Who could possibly outwrestle and finish him too.

If I were him I'd pull a rich Franklin. But the thing is apart from Barboza, giga, Tony and like Dan hooker, who else can he have "fun fights" with? Don't say Chandler...or gaethje. Chandler has that wrestling and gaethje would destroy his legs.

He is in a bad place. They tried to push him to sell PPV but he didn't do so well. I think he is still good enough to beat most contenders but can't beat Volk. He would be seen as the fake champ if he recaptures the belt again.

I don't think LW is the solution. He is going to move up because he thinks he can beat Olives. I think Olives is going to batter him badly this time around.

Wait did he announce a move to 55?

I don't think his mind is in it the way that it used to be, and If that's the case, I wouldn't blame him. By all accounts, he's making bank from online gaming, has a new beautiful wife and a happy family. Max is a cool guy and I wish him the best, but I really don't know what is next for him in MMA. I'm beginning to wonder if even he knows what his goals are in MMA from this point on.

I would like to see that rematch between Max and Oliveira, though. They both deserve fun fights at this point, and the first one was very inconclusive.

The winner of the 145 match between Volk and Max. Both men were talking about winner moving up. Max assumed Olives would capture the title and himself will win. They can probably still do the fight. He didn't win and Olives didn't win.

Not meant to derail.. please excuse me. Didn’t want to create a thread.

Great news, friends. My mom went into the hospital 4 weeks ago today.

She just got released. She is coming back home for Christmas.

Thanks for the support, everybody..

I like Max but I think he's on the downside of his career, I'm expecting him to slow (I think we seen the start of it in the last Volk fight) as the wear and tear off all the wars takes it toll and he'll start to drop fights he would of usually won.

Max should do a proper move to lightweight, bulk up a bit and don't come back until mid 2023. He wasn't a real lightweight in the interim title fight vs Dustin Poirier, he took that fight on like 2 months notice so he didn't really have any time to put any size on.

I wanna see Max take the rest of the year off and come back at 155. I know Volk is going up too, but Max has done enough at 145 and I don't see how he can continue to drain himself to make weight.

Unless Max's chin suddenly cracks you don't think he's got a shot at Topuria? Topuria has power but he frequently overswings and leaves himself defensively vulnerable. Max, if his chin still has some granite left and it hasn't cracked yet, would have a field day landing on him. Topuria clearly thinks so too given he was calling out Ortega which incidentally I don't think would get him the next title fight even if he wins impressively whereas if he called out and beat Max he'd potentially leapfrog over Allen who has been left as the odd man out given the interim FW title fight will set up Volk's next challenger at 145.

The wars are clearly taking their toll but he may very well still be the best guy outside of Volk in the division and since Volks tied up at LW there's room for him to get back in the win column

Even though the 2nd fight w Volk was close, I thought Volk from that point on was rapidly pulling ahead while Max was falling behind.

Whatever Max chooses to do appreciate him for the wars he's been in and the fights he's put on. He has a fan friendly style that doesn't lead itself to longevity. One day it will end but in the meantime it's okay to give fighters their flowers while they're active. He's a good fighter and a great person. War Max.

He should probably forget about the belt for now. But there's still great matchups for him at FW like Allen, Chikadze, Topuria. Those are all awesome FN headliners.
I don't see him doing well at LW but there's a couple of fun winnable fights like Chandler, Gaethje, Hooker, and Moicano.
Hopefully he doesn't stick around too long. He's already done enough and I'd hate to see him end up like Lawler. One or two more losses and gtfo imo.

He will go down as one of the greatest to do it without any doubt, he is still #2 and even though he looked different in his last fight...people have to understand that version of Volk was 10x better than the one he faced in the 2nd fight. It was so far the best performance of Volks career and one of the worst of Max's perhaps.

That's what power punching is. You always overswing if you miss. Watch any power puncher in pro boxing when they miss a punch. That's the point of the power shots, you punch through their face. Hence the overswing if you miss.
