What I don't understand about Sean O'Malley

Fake or not, that shit was weak as fuck. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he wasn't faking because it doesn't make any sense to do that. He's just frail. That dancing video was pretty stupid tho lol. I seriously don't understand that dude.
I think he faked it to save face. To try and discredit the win from Vera and use it as an excuse. So people will look at it like they currently do, with some thinking it's a fluke and that's why he lost. But if it's a fluke and he is confident that's the only reason he lost, then why is the rematch not being made? Why has he declined any option for a rematch with Vera who is ranked higher and has some hype and momentum with his recent win vs Edgar? You'll never hear him talk about having a rematch with Vera. That says everything to me about that fight.

His ego got the best of him and he didn't want to look frail so he made the dancing video to show he's fine and his leg isn't injured, but he just exposed that he faked it by doing that. He had the leg issue previous fight so it's something he figured he could use again. I can see him using it as a cop out for every fight he's starting to lose if he's given the opportunity to.

You think he’d be this popular doing this in Bellator?

God forbid someone take the smart approach and work your way up the ladder while gaining skills/experience

The fight just started tho. Chito didn't do anything to show there was no way he's winning that fight. I think the dancing video showed he was soft, not faking.

He has been fighting since 2013 and in the UFC since 2016. His whole ammy career was made up of debut fighters or people with 50-50/negative records, his pro career has been similar. He has fought guys on massive loss streaks on their way out of the UFC. It's time to fight top guys or stop calling them out.

Bellator dont pay nearly what UFC does and has barely any viewership. Hard to create a brand if no one is looking. He also said he will fight higher ranked guys when he gets paid more which is fair.

To me I saw O'Malley break in confidence. He was hitting him hard and it wasn't really affecting Vera. He was still in his face and the harder O'Malley tried to go with his striking, the more Vera started pressuring and striking back. That's when he started hitting O'Malley and made him start back pedaling. There was a change in O'Malley's confidence once Vera started hitting him. He started pulling back on his shots because he was too worried about the return fire. To me O'Malley broke during that fight and looked for a way out. He didn't think he would be able to beat Vera after he started exchanging with him and Vera was still there starting to turn up the pressure.

He is 27 lol. Just because he is calling somebody out does not mean their Manager/Team will agree to fight him, thats not how it works. I doubt many people want to risk losing to him (especially by KO), so he is fighting guys that agree to do so.

If he wins this fight he will be 6-1 in the UFC, should be able to crack the top 10. No need to bash the guy when we don’t sit around the negotiating table.

You think that's what he's doing?

Hell yes, and trying to build a “brand” and following in the process. Nothing wrong in racking up some KO’s and popularity before negotiating for a bigger fight. Look how many posts we have about him already. As long as you all tune in to watch him lose, he will start get paid.

He has been pretty open it's actually him turning down the fights and choosing the lower guys. He has done interviews on this. They offerred him the Frankie fight alledgedly that Vera just took, but he wouldn't take it. Look at his whole record. he is actively picking people on losing streaks or limited experience to highlight reel for both ammy and now pro. Vera was chosen because he is willing to trade and they banked on O'malley being able to get him to walk onto a big shot. He had been winning, but always lost the first round. He was meant to be a winnable ranked fight.

Paiva is meant to be another attempt at what they did with Vera. They are banking on him being able to get him to walk onto a KO shot because he is happy to brawl a bit.
O'malley should have taken Frankie, but once he did that there was no going back.

I don't want him to lose tho. I'm not a hater. I enjoy him winning more than losing.

Didn’t he turn it down because it was in New York? I think he wanted the fight in Vegas (not sure if this is tax related), but they wanted Frankie to fight in NY to get ticket sales. He also said he just wants to be paid more if he is fighting higher ranked opponents, which completely makes sense. You actually think he would duck Frankie, who has got to be one of the easiest fighters to KO currently? Pretty sure he cleans Frankie’s clock inside the distance, only shot Edgar has is diving for those legs.

Once again he is doing things intelligently: make your brand bigger while fighting lower ranked/skilled opponents, then when it comes time to negotiate you have the followers/audience to land bigger checks against bigger opponents.

He turned down a fight on the return card with a crowd in Madison Square Garden against Edgar. How much bigger could you have made your brand than fighting there against Frankie and performing well after the gimme fight on the Mcgregor/Poirer card? Edgar has some losses recently but he is still a top guy, though the shine from a win over him has to drop off soon.

Vera and Edgar was the 3rd main card fight just before the two championship fights after the switch up with Gaethje and Chandler. Now instead he is the first fight and will probably get swept under the rug at 269.

100% he ducked him. Frankie has lost recently but he isn't losing to low ranked guys. There is definitely a chance Frankie shoots on him and absolutely destroys him on the ground in under 30 seconds like Vera did.

If he wants to get paid more he needs to stop fighting regional fighters and guys on their way out. frankie is nearly there, but he had a fight or two left that will go either way, before he is out of top 10.

He had multiple guys willing to fight him of an acceptable ranking and instead they signed 2-2 in his last 4 Moutinho. Dana juust had to get that hot prospect into the UFC. It backfired becauuse now Moutinho boosted his profile and we realised that O'malley is done against anyone that can last a round and check kicks.

Wasn't a checked kick that hurt him. Regardless you don't know how he's gonna do in the future.

hard to have confidence in mallies durability, after being TKO'd with elbows and stretchered out of the cage without serious injury

If he's so comfortable with fighting lower/no ranked guys for money, then why even come to the UFC? Why not try to go to Bellator instead? They'll be happy to let you fight cans and pay you damn good too. Hell MVP made a career out of it. If he beats Paiva, do you think he's gonna try to step it up?
Because he is trying to create a brand and the ufc is the largest promotion. And guess what? It’s working. He is one of the biggest stars in the sport right now. Like him or hate him people want to see him fight.
