What happened to Kevin Lee?

I don't really understand the fascination. He's not that interesting. He was a talented fighter showing some promise, which was broken when he eventually stepped up in competition. A tale as old as time.

I never really believed that Lee was going to be a champion or anything even when he was doing well in the UFC but he was a decent prospect with a good top game.

He also seems like a great guy but like most of his peers at that time he suffered alot by trying to act like McGregor.

I know he's had some knee issues but his chin seems to be completely gone, he can't take damage at all even though I don't remember him taking any career altering damage.

I feel like his career went downhill since his old coach passed away and he just couldn't recover. He did pretty decently in his early UFC career, he had a relatively competitive fights with Charles Oliveira aswell.

I was shocked when he had a competitive fights with Diego Sanchez in EFC which again was due to his knees but watching his latest pfl fight, it's shocking how bad he looked.

I would attribute the lack of takedowns to his knee issues but I really don't understand what happened to his striking & chin, he is only 32 years old aswell & it's not like he started MMA at a young age or has had several wars.

What happened to the Mo Town Phenom?
Fighter Kevin Lee? Or Gastrointestinal Surgeon Kevin Lee?

I hate to say it but I sort of saw it coming. Gadzhi Rabadanov is a bad mofo and it seemed like Lee was shoehorned in there. Id love to see Gadzhi come to ufc

I dont know what went wrong for Kevin. He had zero meaningful offense and Gadzhi had that Russian aura. Kevin has been declining HARD for the last 5 or so years and I dont know why. He's not even that old. I remember him as the wrestler who gave Barboza and Chiesa hell. I swear he had a great top game. Also headkicked a fisherman

BTW Dude Wipes is such a cringe sponsor

Kevin needs to quit. I like him and always root for him, but he isnt gonna have some breakthrough comeback run.

Maybe the money is worth it but it has to take it's toll mentally and physically.

He peaked early, and now, I think he should consider retirement at age 32. His chin is like a windshield with a crack in it. It's only gonna get worse and the process will only accelerate.

He was a dominant top-game fighter in his 20s, much like the last guy he beat, Diego Sanchez. Time changes everything. The concussions add up and the athleticism wears off.

Fighting randoms who got no name but elite skills. Not good for your resume. What even happened, gotta look it up.

That's the fallacy of PFL. Last night we had a main event with a UFC name getting wrecked by a way more able Russian no name. Then you got about 3 decent fights on the main card that go to decision. It was an okay night besides the FKL squash match

PFL can seem like one toxic diaper though

This.

A lot that is true has been mentioned (didn't fight that many elite fighters, shallow game, etc.) but he was an exceptional athlete with tons of confidence that carried him through a lot and had him on the verge of an interim title (mounted TFerg in round one and was mauling him before gassing bad from Staph).

When he fought Oliviera he got put in half a dozen horrifying leg-lock positions and though he didn't tap he took life-changing knee ligament damage, ended up needing multiple ACL surgeries within a few a years (wouldn't be surprised if he tore meniscus/PCL as well).

Now he lost the thing that made him special (athleticism and confidence because of that athleticism), which really exposed how limited he was and that he always had poor defense where he would bully opponents before they could put it on him typically.

losses affect guys differently, some can just ignore them and roll with them and some get pretty much destroyed. it looked to me like lee lost all his confidence after getting beat a few times.
