What happened to Gunnar Nelson?

I met Gunnar Nelson once when I was in my town centre going for a meal with my family. I was walking up the stairs to the place and he’s walking down and I sort of stared him out but he didn’t look away, he had that dead stare like Fedor has, as I was trying to figure out where I recognised him from. Really surreal moment and I found out later that he was here with his team to help some low level fighters in a small tournament

Think he busted his knee and pretty much just disappeared after that. Him staying at welterweight and not fighting in his true weight class at 155 was such a dumb move. He could have a much better career maybe even fought for a belt.

Guessing he will probably fight again next year?
Hopefully he comes back at 155

I remember his first ufc fight vs Jorge Santiago, I thought he lost. I was so bitter about that fight cause Jorge finally moved to 170 and took fight on short notice

I hope he comes back soon, too. I agree with everyone else that he should be at 155 instead of 170. Still, even if he never moves down, he's always fun to watch fight.

Perfect candidate for a 165 division, wish he could make 155. His loses to Leon & Burns dont look that bad in retrospect.

If he stays at 170, maybe a fight vs Pettis or Rocco Martin would get him back in the win column.

He was posting workout and dancing vids on Instagram back in Sept. That and MMA awareness bits.

Didn’t Ponzi Scheme turn him into a meme?

Do you happen to have the gif of his constant eye pokes in that fight?

There was a slowed down gif that showed some of the most subtle well placed eye pokes I have ever seen. I was mad at the time, but after I was impressed because it seemed he had worked out how to use eye pokes effectively. He could have sold that eye poke system as a martial art back in the 90s hahaha. It was all done with subtle shots to the eye with his thumb etc.

edit: found it
