Nature & Animals What exotic pets have you owned?

I had a boa that escaped when I was out of town. I trusted the wrong incompetent roomate to look after it when I was gone. That was the last time I tuned somebody up actually.

numerous snakes, ranging from giant constrictors to little western hognose types. cites listed parrots, birds of prey, red eared sliders. had a marine tank for years, countless dogs, currently have a cane corso and French bulldog and a small collection of exotic morph ball pythons. had a chinchilla for a number of years.

@Takes Two To Tango
@Zookeeper Gabe
@jefferz

Here are a couple of shots of my frogs mentioned earlier.

Golden Dart Frog (one of the most poisonous creatures on earth in their natural environment) Captive bred have zero poison. They get their toxicity from the insects they eat in the wild. These are the ones the bush tribes try to lace their blow darts with! Enough poison in an adult frog to kill 20 men, or a couple of elephants.

Both of these breeds are the two largest dart frogs in the world as well (which isn't very big)

Things are awesome and active day and night and generally low maintenance if you have a good established bioactive enclosure. Highly recommended pet.

You remember hearing about the incident in New Brunswick a few years back where two boys were killed by an African Rock python while they slept above a pet store? Friends of the owners kids who were sleeping over. Somehow dude wasn't held criminally liable. Weird story all round, but very sad and tragic and a reminder of the serious requirements of owning wild animals.

had a couple corn snakes a red tail boa and emperor scorpions in the past. Not really pets but I got the chipmuks sround the house trained to take peanuts from my hand.

I do very sad indeed, I left this guy with clear written instructions and some cash incentive. When I got home he had no explanation, then I found out he was taking him out show off to some girls and something went wrong and they let it escape, this was in winter so he must have died pretty quickly.

Just had two parakeets. Not very exotic but they taught me a lot about pitch recognition and control.

I use to have a 15” pike cichlid, it’s a type of aggressive South American fish
You have to feed them a lot of live foods if they won’t eat pellets or other stuff
One time I just decided to put all the feeder fish in the tank at once and just let him pick them off at his leisure
By Next morning he had eaten about 25 of them lol
Ended up giving it away cuz I didn’t want to dedicate a whole 90 gallon tank to one fish and was still growing bigger

Pike cichlids are the single most aggressive, predatorial freshwater fish I've ever owned. Bought a pair, within a week only my dinner plate sizes Oscar was still alive. 150gal tank. It was incredibly impressive watching their ambush style of hunting. But shit. Fuckers cost me a few hundred bucks of dead fish lol. Took em back to the shop I got em from. "Yeah you're the 3rd customer to bring them back." Uhhhh... thanks for the heads up bud

I dont really do exotic. The most "exotic" pet that lived in my home was my buddies ferret. Stanking ass fucker. Then he goes and loses his ferret. 3 months later we find it in the little basement of the place.

My buddy lost his pet ball python in his place
He rented the main floor of a house
Just moved out and didn’t tell anybody lol

Mexican Red Leg Tarantula.

Got it in university but my room mate ultimately kept it, and it lived almost 20 years.

My younger kid's been wanting snakes for awhile. Got two young kingsnakes last month, they've been a complete pleasure so far.
