What does Kamaru Usman need to do to surpass GSP as GOAT

if we're talking about WW goat, then sure, I'd agree he wouldn't need the MW belt obviously.

I was going off the thread title, of overall MMA GOAT, which in MY opinion, he would either need that, or at minimum 3-5 more WW defenses, to surpass GSP's overall GOAT status.

And the better competition is debatable, the only one that really has a definitive, no argument comparison of being "better", is Colby, every other has arguments of the case of not being better, or just on par of GSP's defenses(I will concede that some of GSP's aren't too special in today's realm though. It's just GSP has double Usmans to easily make up for it)

I think what favours Usman case is that he finished the three tittle challengers he has had. And barely lost a round, let alone finished twice and two controversial decisions.

I agree he needs more defences but if he maintains this finishing ratio 3-4 fights would make it imo. That0s a long road though.

GSP is your pfp mma goat? I could see ww goat if you’re a big fan, but wow, there’s about three or four I’d personally put ahead of him on the pfp list

This is just ridiculous. If he loses to Colby he will have a hard time closing that gap, even if he beats him in the triology.
An occasional set back for a great sets up a bigger accomplishment. If you have no set backs - especially in a division where the champ's way ahead, it seems like you never really challenged yourself or that you're not really all that good, that the other guys just sucked. I don't make these rules, it's just human psychology.

Usman's getting a huge inertia of praise which, if Colby beats him, will inflate Colby's cred for at least half a year above anyone else in the division. And if Usman comes back and beats him, settling the trilogy score, he'll harvest all that shine, scatter the roach critics and be back to his winning ways.

And it is what is is, an inflated Colby would be a far more better win than like 3 more Edwards or Burns profile type of wins.

At the end of the day, only us forum OCD dweebs care about actual numbers, the GOAT conversation is mainly optics and popularity. Winning plays a role as long as you're beating recognizable names.

That credit you assume for Colbi for beating Usman - already did pretty wel until the late stoppage - is only in your imagination. A loss would be definitely a hard set back to come back from in this race.

He can't. Truth is, the names he fights are simply not big enough and I don't think he has enough time for those names to show up. If Khamzat proves that he can hang with the best then maybe that would add cred to Usman.

We have decision over boring Woodley, questionable ko vs Colby, snoozefest snugglefest vs Mas, impressive jab ko vs Burns and a powerbomb vs Masvidal.

Woodley was defeated more convincingly by Colby, Burns and Luque.
The bomb vs Masvidal was amazing, but Mas was never a champion and even in that fight he was actually giving Usman trouble.

Yeah, I don't think he can make it up, he will serve to prop up whoever comes after him.

Today I thought of a color that doesn't exist, before I realized it was just a pigment of my imagination.

In my opinion if he can keep the knock outs in the early rounds like he has been doing lately he can enter goat status but as of right now GSP is the goat of WW

Keep finishing fights. That’s it. Of course more title defenses. But to really get that edge for the goat status? He just needs to keep finishing fights.
