Crime What did the cops do wrong today Megathread Vol. 6 ? (who knows, lots of cop threads)

A motorcyclist in Goodyear, Arizona was killed when a police cruiser ran a red light and hit him and he became pinned underneath the SUV.

Initially, the police issued a statement claiming that the cruiser was responding to a call with lights and sirens on and that the motorcyclist should've known to yield.

However, a good Samaritan who filmed the crash on his dashcam provided the video to the local news which shows that the cruiser didn't have its lights on when it ran the red light.

The department isn't commenting and says that the local sheriffs department is investigating.

This is in Maricopa county, where all of the PDs are corrupt, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

This dude is now in custody because they found child porn on the computers that they seized from him when they arrested him on the official oppression charges.

There's more been more reporting on the original charges. That unit anti-crime unit that he was commanding was just a big racial profiling operation on the strip.

Honestly, it seems to me like he's the scapegoat. The officers under his command where making false arrests and writing bogus reports too, so it's weird that he's the only one who got charged.

"I was just following orders" isn't a defense.

The entire purpose of the unit was to clear out undesirables to make tourists more comfortable. The taxpayers are probably going to get raked over the coals when all of the guys who got arrested sue.

I wonder if I get to blame our Republican Governor for this. Lol

Acorn cop 2.0.

Cop stopped to investigate a car stopped on the shoulder of street where he encountered the passenger of the car.

The passenger's hat blew up off, and he tried to catch it. The cop responded by drawing his weapon and shooting at the unarmed man because he thought that he had a gun.

Like the acorn cop, he missed his target. (The bullet hit a passing car.)

Unlike the acorn cop, this idiot was actually charged.

More and more evidence that hiring standards and training for Cops is in the toilet.

Excellent video where a City Councilman punks a Cop who is playing loud Disney music to make sure a YouTube Copwatcher cannot post the video. Cop even admits that that's the purpose. Now we're going to have to see legislation that says Cops cant use their personal phones or City phones to play music while on duty because they're using it as a way to not get recorded:

A high-ranking member of the Maricopa County Sheriffs Department, who used to be a Phoenix PD officer, got suspended for spreading lies about Tyron McAlpin stealing someone's phone.

The phone that McAlpin had was his own phone, and he'd never been arrested before those two bozos nearly beat him to death.

That's another part of the story that's been overshadowed because everything else is so egregious, but it's ridiculous on its own. The officers initially charged McAlpin with stealing his own phone.

Maricopa County is the MOST CORRUPT county in the USA.

Tim Kennedy getting some crossover exposure.

This is from that "Street Cop" training seminar that got kicked out of New Jersey for teaching cops unconstitutional policing tactics.

They relocated to Florida with the blessing of Ron DeSantis.

Departments are spending taxpayer money to send cops to these seminars to learn how to violate rights so that the taxpayers have to pay out again for the inevitable lawsuits that will follow.

Fucking genius all around.

I have been to those street cop seminars, though not in a long ass time. The ones I attended did focus on surviving a lethal threat and being prepared to take a life and was filled with stories of survival and some fatal encounters where the officer hesitated. From what I have been told, they’re not all like that anymore, but one I attended was grossman

I always wonder with these assholes: do they know the law?

Rarely do the authoritarian assholes understand the law. They received a call on this guy. A simple explanation would be the quicker and better way to avoid such an interaction but when you have someone that simply won’t cooperate, the cops have to think on their feet which is clearly not a skill this officer possesses. I would like to think that the way I always approached people would put them at ease and willing to talk to me or give an explanation as to why they are there. But there are a lot of anti cop people that just want to make an officers life difficult. I would approach and explain why I was there and ask if he needed any help. Run his damn plate to get a name but if they refuse to talk to you, you have to fall back on what is the law. Just because you get a call on someone does not mean you absolutely have to take action. The people that call rarely have a fucking clue as to what the law is and what it is not. So if you don’t have a crime or at least have reasonable articulable suspicion, just walk away and put your fragile ego in check.

Phoenix PD (again).

They literally cooked this guy like an egg by holding him on hot pavement on a day where the temperature was 114 degrees last summer.

He got third degree burns, and they had to cut chunks out of his body.

It's also not clear why he was even detained. He had a warrant for an FTA over a ticket, but they didn't even know that when they approached him. They decided to go after him after his roommate had reported a theft that someone else had committed.

No charges were filed on the basis of this interaction.

Once again Florida, the beacon of American Freedom...using tax dollars to manufacture crimes:

I wonder how many real crimes had longer response times because there's a detail of officers assigned to ticket people for walking in the street after they blocked off the sidewalk with a patrol vehicle.

I'm kinda glad Godbolt lived up to his name and got away from them.

BTW there are few things I hate more than listening to an out of breath Cop on bodycam.

Hit the gym fellas.

This is a much bigger piece of the puzzle than I think people give credit, and as stupid as it sounds I never would have considered it a job asset in regards to the small day to day interactions police have.

No matter what, you have to have the ability to talk to people. Some are fine until the person becomes uncooperative or aggressive. Some officers simply don’t possess those skills. Some cops are fantastic and I honestly think that it was part of the reason I didn’t have to use force all too often.

Some do, some don't. The problem is there is ZERO accountability. This attracts bullies, narcissists, and psychopaths. So our cops are literally out worst members of society and they are given immunity from consequences.

Crazy, right?
