Movies What character in a movie could have been great, but the actor they cast didn’t fit the role?

yeah I didn’t really see it as ironic- it might have been- but I tend to think if that’s what they were going for, Roth would not have bulked up, which he clearly did.

I don’t think Roth is really bad in that movie, particularly when he and “Dominic Decocco” take part in the funniest scene in the film. But I get the point for sure that they could have had someone better cast to play The Bear Jew. I get that part of that moniker is the myth transcending the man, but I think it would have been more fitting to have some more monstrous individual for that part. Roth is one of those guys as you said, is certainly not small (perhaps by sherdog standards) but I think you needed someone of the physical stature of like Affleck, a big f’n dude who is going to make that “Teddy Williams” scene all the more intense.

Strangely, I’d never heard the Sandler thing before. Would have been interesting.

The Italian Stallion might have been a decent Bear Jew. This was around the time of Rambo 4. Part Jewish in real life as well.

Topher Grace as Eddie Brock.

Tom Hardy has been bad too but I think he could have pulled it off with better writing. Venom doesn’t work as a standalone character. He should have been a straight villain in a Spiderman movie.

Daniel day Lewis as Lincoln
should have been the rock

imagine the rock smashed a carriage right across gettysburg bashing dudes

making American history great again

Denzel just like Sam was too old to be Django at that point in time, if they made this movie in 1992 then Denzel would've been perfect for it.

Too old to play Django? Django isn't even black in the first place so who cares about the age. Not to mention black don't crack and Denzel could have still played the part

What was Django around the same time as Safe House and Flight? Denzel could have probably just barely pulled it off age-appearance-wise. Equalizer 3 Denzel barely looks young enough for the Scatman Crothers role in The Shining though.

People are going to disagree with me, but I always felt Arnold Schwarzenegger was wrong for Total Recall. He's good in it for what he is and it's definitely an entertaining movie, but...

...that film had real potential to be great. The concept and plot twist were interesting enough to make it a second Blade Runner. For that reason, I think they should have cast Harrison Ford.

Still an action star, but with the chops to make the two sides of Quaid more compelling and to draw the audience deeper into the drama of what was real and what wasn't.

The fact that Schwarzenegger + Verhoeven resulted in such an over the top bombastic action satire a la Robocop and Demolition Man on steroids was one reason I was somewhat open to the idea of the remake with Colin Farrell. The potential for a different version that doesn't compete in the same space as Arnold's did exist and an age appropriate Harrison Ford would have been a decent candidate for the lead role in that alternate version.

As it is I will take the Arnold movie we have in the hand versus whatever might have been instead because the odds of the alternative actually turning out better are quite long.

It was released in 2012 so 12 years ago. Django was a civil war soldier not a slave, so if they can change that they can also change his age.

They can change whatever they want sure but as Django ages up so presumably does the woman he is trying to rescue as that's kind of the heart of the story. Also the older Django is, the more weird it is to be taken under Waltz's wing as a noob.

That guy Barbie actor in the drive movie. It could have been a badass main character.

But instead we got zoolander with Jason Bourne skills

I wouldn't call a partnership to be taken under his wing but even still Waltz looks way older than Denzel at the time plus with all of the make up ECT they would use

Angela Basset could have played Kerri Washingtons character if you need an older woman, but considering the time Kerri Washington would still have been a fine choice. You could even change the story from husband wife to father daughter and it wouldn't hurt the story at all.

I honestly don't think Jamie would be an issue with me if Tarantino would have wrapped things up once Leo and Waltz die.
