Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp Series![]()

After all of C.S. Forester's Hornblower books, Patrick O'Brien's Jack Aubrey books, and Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series, I needed more British military men from (made up) history. See also authors Alexander Kent and Allan Mallinson. I'd say Cornwell's my favorite, followed by, Forester, O'Brien, Kent then Mallinson for this genre.
Did you read the rest of the series or stop after the first book?I also didn't care for The Gunslinger. Hail Mary is good though.
Stopped after the first bookDid you read the rest of the series or stop after the first book?
The first is very different from what follows. The second book might be my favourite in the seriesStopped after the first book
Yeah I re read Mediations once a year as a reality and perspective check. Works well.Currently reading through Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Interesting stuff so far, and next up I'm gonna tackle my 4 volume set of Dogen's Shobogenzo after my typical pallet cleanser of a Discworld novel between heavy books.
The Emperor of All Maladies is seriously fantastic. Will have to check this one out.Just finished A Dream of Red Mansions, I am now reading The Song of The Cell by Siddhartha Mukherjee.
Such a great book.View attachment 944825
I just finally got around to reading this.
The original movie adaptation scared the heck out of me as a kid.
Neither movie does the book justice.
The book has much more depth in the characters and the idea of grief as the main motivation for all the bad things that go down just adds to the buildup to the story finale.
Great choice.Firestarter by Stephen King. I'm 300 pages in. It's a nice suspenseful thriller about a daughter and father on the run from a secret branch of the US government. As of right now both are caged in US custody.
Having read this far in this one book makes me understand why some Americans are paranoid about the COVID vaccine.

∆∆∆∆∆ glad to see other SK fans here.
I'm reading the Dark Tower series and most of the closely related books.
Finished:
Little Sister's of Eluria (0.5)
Gunslinger (1)
Drawing of the Three (2)
Waste Lands (3)
Wizard and Glass (4)
Wind Through the Keyhole (4.5)
Wolves of the Calla (5)
Closely related books:
The Stand
Eyes of the Dragon
The Talisman (mostly for the sequel)
Salem's Lot
Low Men in Yellow Coats
Still to go, probably in this order:
Insomnia
Everything's Eventual
Song of Susannah (6)
Black House (Talisman sequel)
The Dark Tower (7)
It's been a wild ride so far. I will be sad when it's over.
I'd recommend at least trying the following books. He wrote The Gunslinger when he was very young and it shows, but the later entries are much more polished and entertaining, from what I've heard.Stopped after the first book

I've thought about trying the series again. I keep hearing so much about it. It was probably 10 years ago I read The Gunslinger and I barely remember it.I'd recommend at least trying the following books.
