What books are you reading?

I remember a few years ago there was a thread on good horror books for this time of year. It was the first time that someone had recommended me to read Penpal which was awesome. Anybody got any good recommendations? I tried House of Leaves and for the life of me I just can’t get into it.
What sort of horror novels do you enjoy? Been on a horror trip recently, which im not too into anymore, and read a few that I enjoyed. Really dug “The Fisherman” by John Langan, and “Boy’s Life” by Robert McCammon specifically. If into weirder stuff, got some more recommendations, and even more if into extreme horror.

And dude… HOL is awesome. A bit unwieldy to read, but, I love the semi-“epistolary” style of it. Different in a way that actually works in its favor, imho. That sucks that it didn’t work for you. A friend I lent my copy to also could not get into it.

Firestarter by Stephen King. I'm 300 pages in. It's a nice suspenseful thriller about a daughter and father on the run from a secret branch of the US government. As of right now both are caged in US custody.

Having read this far in this one book makes me understand why some Americans are paranoid about the COVID vaccine.

I’ll probably give it another try one day. It’s just right now with two kids playing travel hockey among other things I just haven’t had the time to really soak it in. I feel like it’s not a book to read on the fly and it needs to be absorbed. I’ll check out the recommendations that you made. I do like really creepy stuff so I’d take your best shot.

I’ll throw love out to Laird Barron. I just like the way he writes. It’s weird and grim, all while having truly respectable prose. His best is the anthology “Occultation”. Fantastic Writes some detective noir stuff. If you’re into that.

And he has an eye patch. Not relevant. Just cool

Just started the second Petrie book. Not too bad . Not as good as Reacher's older stuff but readable.

Just subscribed to the Marvel Unlimited comics. Working through the Civil storyline and restarted the Spider-man comics .
The Peter Ash books are a good place filler for the Reacher books. The new Reacher book comes out soon. I was not very impressed with last one.
Also the Reacher TV shows second season is based on Bad Luck and Trouble. That is a really great Reacher novel.

I read the second ( I think) Reacher book written by Andrew Child last month whilst on holiday on Corfu. I didn't even bother bringing it back which I've never done until then.

I only kept them to add to the hardcover collection.

Reading aurelius meditations

I like that translator decided to put in 20 pages of his own opinion and bullshit, like if i want an opinion of a translator i will go stand at welfare office

I'm about half way through fairy tale by stephen king. I'm finding it incredibly boring and am struggling to keep picking it up. It sorta reminds me of the dark tower when the katet is on the road, but in this nothing is happening. dark tower had gun fights, bad ass scenes. this has a sick dog and a kid on the road, the idea of saving the dog is alright, but its not even his freakin dog. cmon king. king books that I don't like, tend for me to start strong and lose steam. this is the opposite and I'm really hoping the last 300 pages or so is wild

just finished Before I Met You by lisa jewell. I like jewells easy style of writing, this was a light fast read, a love story gone wrong with a small mystery.

I've recently been in a slump with my readings. I'm either moving between too many without finishing anything, or simply preoccupied with other aspects of life.
A few I managed to finish lately were Alex Orenstein's introduction to the philosophy of W.V.O Quine and Heidegger's What Is Called Thinking?
I'm focusing on Jerry Muller's Tyranny of Metrics now, which is a pretty quick read.
A few others I'm moving through at a snail's pace are:
Alain Badiou- The adventure of french philosophy
the collected correspondences of Vladmir Nabokov and Edmund Wilson
Hannah Arendt- Essays in Understanding
MIT essential knowledge series- Neurolinguistics

Just started "The White Pill" by Michael Malice. A couple of chapters in and it's quite enjoyable.

Have not started yet.
Aiming for February after playoffs & SB.

Almost done with Back Blast by Mark Greaney, the 5th Gray Man novel. Ripped through the first 4 in about a day each. This one is taking a bit longer just because I haven't had as much free time.

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow

I’m halfway through it now. Very good story that’s keeping me interested. About a boy and girl and their lives together as friends and business partners as they design video games together. The book jumps back and forth from hers and his perspectives.
