I played through this side missions and I absolutely enjoyed it, but I'm looking at the comments and it has me thinking.

Why in the hell are the majority of the comments complaining about file sizes and asking for it to be paid DLC instead?

Is that where we are now? Demanding parts of games be lopped off, because Microsoft and Sony added shit-tier memory to their consoles?

I used to get 1TB on my One S. My Series S doesn't even cover half of that.

It's the attitude of the commenters that bothers me the most. They attacked the creators instead of the pillocks that decided to give next-gen consoles basic memory.

Honestly, it seems that games are becoming too big and too expensive to make, and I wouldn't be surprised if gaming starts to collapse on itself somewhat.

Maybe I'll get that gaming PC after all...

Final Fantasy 8 Remastered Edition

This is a game I have to beat. I started it when I was a kid, got to the last castle, then traded the game for a quarter bag of weed. The plan was to get the weed, then borrow my game from the weed man to finish it but it didn't work out.
Do yourself a favor and look up a guide to get the 'Lionheart.'

Trust me FF8 can be pretty tedious, and getting that weapon can streamline everything.

Still playing avowed, I'm gonna 100 percent this shit.

RoboCop: Rogue City is on sale on steam for dirt cheap. Had to pick it up.
Also ended up getting Noita and Warriors: Abyss which is a Dynasty Warriors roguelike

Started Quake 2 finally. Two missions in and it's fun for a shooter but no Quake 1, that's for sure.

Quake's weapons are so meaty, espeically the double barreled shotgun. I think I like it even more than Doom's supershotgun. It's just boom boom boom boom, while Quake 2's supershotgun is more like pew pew. Pretty weak. And it's the beefiest sounding weapon I've tried in that game so far.

And the levels in the sequel are so long. While Quake's take 5-15 minutes, these are like an hour. At least they introduced a compass that shows you where to go or else I probably wouldn't bother.

The atmosphere or music don't compare either. I love that Lovecraftian theme and NiN soundtrack of the original. Such a unique game.

Also tried Painkiller, an old shooter from 20 years ago. Finished the first level but it seemed pretty repetitive and janky so will probably shelf it until I'm bored.

Avowed

Well, I think I've seen enough. Good first impression that doesn't really go anywhere. The writing is okay, but gets tiresome after a while, because it's so bland and you never really expect anything to jump out at you after a while. Serviceable, but nothing more.

The combat is pretty fun, but again, gets hampered by sameness and a sense that it will never feel better than it is. I don't know why sneaking and shooting arrows in Skyrim is more addictive than what's offered here, but it just is.

Visually, the world is pretty cool. You really get a nice sense of scale when you're looking out over a cliff, and it's all very nice to look at...from a distance. The more you play, the more it all blends together. The art style might be the culprit here. It's all very cartoon-y, and washed out up close.

The characters were fine, but again, just fine. Ultimately though, I think it's bare bones loot system kills it. I want to get excited when opening a chest. There are literally hundreds of chests around every corner in this game and 99% of them contain nothing but some coins and upgrade materials. They basically turn into cupboards you would open in similar games. There isn't much reward for progressing in this game. It's all very rigid and bland and it just gets tiresome after a while, to the point where you're 20 hours in, knowing that you've still got 40 or so hours to go, and it starts to feel like a chore after a while.

You could definitely do worse, but as is, this is a painfully average western RPG, that's missing a lot of what makes them great. Although, I have a feeling that it might become a cult hit in the future. It just screams "It's actually great, because it's average and not many people gave it a chance at release."

6/10

Man, Painkiller is a classic. I remember when it first came out and it was both brilliant in terms of gameplay and amazing visually

You should stick with it for a while, at least until you get the legendary Stake Gun which is one of the most fun fps weapons ever. Also as the game increases in scale it becomes a lot better. The first level in the graveyard is pretty boring, but not really reflective of the overall level design which gets a lot grander and also extremely varied

Alright cool. Yeah the graveyard seemed to drag on longer than it should have.

Is there any general strategy to follow or just keep moving and kill everything? I assume I'm supposed to collect those blue souls that drop from dead enemies? And the red ones are save points or something?

Yeah just stay moving and whittle down the crowds. Being static is generally a terrible idea

The Green Souls restore a little bit of health (Like 1hp) and Red Souls restore a bit more and count for more collected souls. Once you have collected a certain of souls you morph into a demon for like 20 seconds and in this form you can annihilate enemies with ease

You should also get a sense of what breakable scenery there is as these drops coins. If I remember correctly you could buy Tarot Cards with them which give you extra abilities and buffs. I always combed the levels looking for gold and treasure (I guess I'm a little fuzzy on what they were used for but pretty sure Tarot Cards)

Oh that's what that was. I went into berzerker mode at one point but wasn't sure what was going on. And I remember there was a score tally at the end of the level and it said I had no breakables so I'll have to watch for that. Thanks!
