Look at America for example, as far as I know their biggest industries are weapons and drug dealing.

America's manufacturing production and primary global exports are centered around heavy industry and capital goods: predominantly energy, enterprise-grade hardware and industrial high technology. It actually shipped $1.66 trillion in goods around the globe in 2018, making it easily the world's second largest exporter. It still accounts for a fifth of total global production, just doesn't really produce cheap consumer goods anymore.

This is undoubtedly the most indispensable single industry.
