Read through this thread and there a lot of both sides suck comments and Harris would’ve been just as bad but not really a lot of details about that. I don’t see how you get to sane argument a Harris term would be more destructive.
Trump didn’t accept the 2020 result and replaced his VP who wouldn’t try to overturn the election for a new one that would. Harris fulfilled her duty certifying the results after losing to Trump, just as Biden had done in 2016, telling the detractors to cut it out. That alone should show you this isn’t a “they all suck” argument. Trump doesn’t believe in basic concepts of our government like accepting valid election results while the other two did. You guys can cry all you want about the way the primary went but a primary system isn’t the presidential election and before the 70s, candidates were chosen without votes. It’s not stealing an election or if you believe it is and have issues with it, I don’t see how you can’t take serious issue with trumps actions after losing.
To move past that though to a Harris term, like how would it be worse? Especially considering the Senate would’ve stayed red?
-Would she have ignored impoundment and using funding Congress legislatively mandated?
-Would she have ignored civil service protections and performed mass firings even while the cases move through the court?
-Would she have cut funding for USAID and starved desperate populations so some asshat billionaire could pretend he was fixing government?
-Would she have appointed a complete POS anti-vaxxer as Secretary of Health?
-Would she have begun firing many top executive positions and nonpartisan committees in government and look to go after the Fed as well to influence their monetary policy?
-Would she have sought baseless cases against her political rivals and when her AGs present to her there isn’t a legitamate case to bring, hire them for unqualified yes men to continue with prosections?
-Would she have fired or seen the resignation of AGs because of a desire to drop strong charges against the NY mayor in return for policy favors from that mayor?
-Would she have decided she can unilaterally impose tariffs on every other country in the world and made the roll out very confusing with tweet announcements, then retracts, then reannouncements, and so on? Would she have leveraged company specific exemptions to reward her allies from these terrible policies?
-Would she have pressured private companies like Intel and Oracle into giving ownership stakes to the US government (it’s amazing when the answer is no and the reality is a Republican did this)
-Would she have pardoned people who vandalized the capital building and attempted to stop the certification process?
-Would she have decided to unilaterally send troops into cities, mentioning that she may do this during the midterms to “protect” the ballot box?
-Would her administration been so aggressive in questioning the courts power by defying rulings or ignoring court orders? I mean, we saw with Biden student loans didn’t go through and that may be the most aggressive executive action you could foresee with a democrat president but it was already determined and held up the rest of Biden’s term
-Would she have been so agressive with deportation efforts that Americans would be swept up and illegal immigrants would be denied due process like all peoples of the countries are suppose to be provided?
-Would she have been contemplating 9 months in whether she should award herself a 230M settlement from tax payer dollars?
-Would she have come after law firms and media companies with lawsuits, hoping the pressure would lead to fat settlements and bending the knee to more favorable coverage or cooperation with her adminstsiton?
-Would she have said or her AG have said such damning things about freedom of speech that are just demonstrably false? At best, I know she is for changing section 230. That’s like the closest I can try to bridge her possible action to the crap he’s saying and doing to stifle freedom of speech right now.
-Would she have accepted an airliner as a gifts?
-If there had been mass protests about any illiberal things she was doing, would she post an AI video on social media of her literally shitting on the protestors?
-Would she have opened a crypto currency that anyone could just freely put money into as an indirect bribe to enrich herself?
This isn’t the complete list but any one of these Trump is in a whole other ballpark of illiberalism and tearing apart institutions. You guys aren’t some voice of reason saying both of them are just as bad, it just comes off as clueless or ignorant. The closest mirror I could think of from all that is maybe she also is easy on tiktok despite the ban but I still think it wouldn’t be close to what played out here.
The term I expected she’d have right now is one without much power. The senate would stall any legislation and her having to compromise on whatever the tax bill would be along with not being able to get many or any judicial nominees through. The courts would keep any drastic action (that I don’t think she’d take to begin with) in check within a year or so as she obeyed lower court orders. You’d pretty much just get some non-binding messaging that seems woke to you all and is the greater of the two evils (see above for “less evils”…).
Just embarrassing
