Weirdest UFC Tenure?

Askar Mozharov. Lied frequently and inventively, even changing his name in order to disassociate himself from his earliest losses, to make his meh-in-reality record seem good enough to attract the attention of the UFC.

He got signed, but between that and the date of his debut bout the bloodhounds here on Sherdog starting sniffing out his frauds. His official record ended up changing a number of times in the week before he stepped into the cage. You'd think the UFC would have canned him the moment they realized he signed the contract under false pretenses, but I guess they thought a) why fuck over his opponent who'd gone through camp and everything by pulling the fight and b) why not toss him into the lion's pit, sit back and laugh.

He predictably lost and THEN they booted his ass out.

Hard to top the Chris both shattering Anderson's leg then shattering his own leg.
I was so annoyed they didn't put Uriah vs Rockhold. All Uriah had to do was beat Rockhold and he would have had wins over 3 previous champions who would have destroyed him in their primes whilst he was still fighting in the UFC.

Actually Dana was furious Big Tim got kod by Ray Mercer in an mma fight and so he went looking for a former boxing champ who would take an easy payday against Randy couture. Tony got 500k flat fee to show up and take an L, he was under no delusion he was going to win
i was being a tad sarcastic here but i'll take the L because I didn't make it obvious and as we all know its difficult to convey via the internet. This is also why you don't make sarcastic jokes with your old lady through text lol.

Antonio McKee
Guy talked shit for years about how the UFC was afraid to sign him because he'd expose their welterweight division and would embarass GSP. He be finally signed, only to lose his debut on the UFC 125 prelims against Volkmann and be immediately cut afterwards. <lmao>
Very good one!!!
Awesome troll job by the Goof too.
<{danayeah}>

David Loiseau looked like a monster and even fought for the MW title. He was absolutely battered by Franklin and then never looked the same. He even made it back to the UFC twice and lost both times.
Didn't Franklin like break both of his hands on Loiseau's dome??

He broke one hand for sure, I can’t remember if it was both but I wouldn’t be surprised. Completely one sided 50-43 whooping, I watched that live on PPV and I swear I remember paying only like 24.99 at the time lol.

I think that was only like the second PPV I ever bought... Crazy...

Arlovski, Liddell, Franklin and Hughes were the ONLY UFC champions...

Will Brooks was such a bust. I though he would crush it. Maybe that isn't "weird". For weird I'll def agree with the Nicco Montano pick as a fine example.

I would add that the entire HW situation in the UFC is just weird right now. We have a "Paper Champ" situation in Jones. No championship fights for a year and a half. There are some exciting prospects out there...but we are not seeing them fight for gold. I respect Stipe, and maybe he can get it done, but 3.5 years of inactivity, coming off a knockout loss somehow qualifies you for a title fight? We are not seeing GOAT Jones fight the best here. Interest in an Idle champ fighting an even more idle and old former champ has bled dry. UFC making "weird" choices.

Elias Theodorou
8 - 3 UFC fights and 11 - 0 fights outside of the UFC

Yet the legend has it that he never was in a fight.

- Cezar Fereira landed 2 sig strikes in the last 10 minutes against him.
- Bruno Santos landed 0 sig Strikes in the last 5 minutes against him
- He became the first professional athlete to receive a therapeutic use exemption for cannabis in North America in January 2020
- Ring card boy

Yeah that was just UFC marketing. He signed up for a paycheck he could no longer get in boxing. A freak show fight to sell Edgar v Penn 2 because lightweights weren't a draw back then.

Sean "the Cannon" Gannon (rip) was a Boston Cop had one UFC fight against Brandon Lee Hinkle got smashed and lost his job for taking the fight. I should mention that he was also famous for his brawl with Kimbo Slice

Franklin put a really bad BEATDOWN on Jason McDonald too his corner threw in the towel at the end of the second round. Prime Rich was no joke man.

The UFC must have HATED Jon Madsen.

There was a time in the UFC where the way to get cut was lose 3 times in a row. Sometimes it was less losses if you were new. You could generally tell if you were close to being cut if the guy you beat got cut.

So Madsen and Wren fight each other at the TUF HW finale. Madsen scraped by on a split and Wren was released.

Phew, got past the debut. It was ugly, but at least he got past that first hurdle. He gets matched up with Al-Turk, who is 0-2 in the promotion. First match on the card. Uh oh, he might still be in "loser leaves town territory." But it's ok, he wins a unanimous 29-28! ... and Al-Turk was released.

All right, surely we've shaken off the lower tier positioning here. So he gets booked against.. a debuting Vemola. First match on the card. But he wins, this time unanimous 30-27. AND! This time the guy DIDN'T get released. Though that may also be because he dropped a weight class in his next fight, and then again 2 fights later.

But that's ok, he's on a 3 fight win streak. And each victory was better and better. And now he's booked against veteran Gilbert Yvel.. who is 0-2 this UFC run... on the first match of the card. But hey, he actually gets a finish this time! Stopped him in less than 2 minutes! The results are only going up! Yvel was, of course released.

Sure, all those opponents weren't in great positions, but this makes Jon 4-0 in the UFC, 7-0 overall, and coming off a stoppage over a longtime vet. So he gets booked against Mike Russow. The fight is stopped after an eye injury to Madsen, putting him to 4-1 and then he was released.

They just kept that creeping finger of the grim reaper over his shoulder his whole run, ready to yank him off the stage the second he slipped up

Felt a bit sorry for Madsen, yeah. Boring few fights and then goes out and smashes an exciting veteran quickly, loses via injury TKO, gone.

Who was that guy who had the fake record? He fought fairly recently lost and got cut. He had about 7 different versions of his pro record floating around.... Someone help me out here
