Feels bit redundant, doesn't it? 185-195-205 It's even more stupid to have 165 pounds weight class. 155-165-170 Fighters who can't cut it at either weight classes want that weight class. But it's stupid af. It would be like flyweight where they can fight at both at that weight class and weight class above, but even more useless because of 5 pounds difference between 165 and 170.
No way Heavyweight sucks enough as it is Plus the best HWs in boxing and MMA have always been between 215-240
195 is and always has been a bad idea. At that point it'd be significantly worse than boxing. They have 200 and 175 where the UFC has 205 and 185. So 195 would really take the piss. While LHW and MW both have talented fighters at the top, neither division is deep. Also, if you take all the average height and reach stats of each division, you know which two divisions are closest? LHW and MW. In my opinion the UFC should remove its its divisions entirely, weigh fighters year-round, then just matchmake based on the stats. Divisions are an outdated concept for a big structured organisation like the UFC.
It should start at 125 and go up by 10lb increments: 125 135 145 155 165 175 185 186+ = HW They need to force some of these LHW fighters to move up or down. LHW is the second thinnest division, after HW. Forcing most the LHW division into the HW bracket would be way more fun and entertaining.
I’d advocate for two weight classes like OS UFC <200 the Petiterest Weight >200 the Heavierest Weight Better yet, just have two height classes <5’9 Manlette Division or GIC (Genetically Inferior Class)** >5’10” (Superior Homosapien Class)* * Approved for breeding ** Unacceptable for reproduction
Except the talent isn't there for that weight class, while it certainly is for 165. Also pretty much everyone who is in favor of the 165 class agrees that if it happens, 170 needs to get bumped to 175.
There are too many weight classes already and adding more would even further reduce the quality of fight cards.
