Wasnt George Lazenby as James Bond a really strange pick as Connerys successor?

Just grab some random white dude...it was a lazen pick for sure.

Lazenby kicked some real ass in that first scene. But, evidently, including the leading lady, no one on set could stand him.

Well said. I stand by the belief that Living Daylights is a legitimately solid, last gasp of Cold War era Bond movie.

License to Kill is where he lost me though. Too gritty for the sake of gritty and didn’t resonate. Even Benicio couldn’t save it though he did his best and contributed as he often does.

Dalton was sort of a precursor to Craig in some ways.

Dalton is my favourite Bond, shame he only got two movies. I agree License to Kill wasn't as good as Living Daylights but I always thought he was a really good Bond overall. I'll always rep Dalton.

Michael Fassbender was considered before Craig got the part.

Pretty sure Fassbender would have killed it, probably a very similiar interpretation to Daniel Craigs.

Dalton and Connery the 2 best - Dalton would have been best if he stayed course.
Craig was next and has imo the best bond movie in Casino Royale

Brosnan and Roger were too cartoonish imo for the role especially Moore but a few of Moores films were alot of fun like For your eyes only and Brosnans Golden Eye was fun but imo his bond went off a cliff after that

I dont understand the casino royale love. Its pne of my least favourite bond movies.

I liked Brosnan. He wasnt quite rugged enough to be the perfect bond, bht he was just so smooth. Indeed, golden eye was his peak, but its a high peak.

Lazenby did only one film, his manager talked him out of a very lucrative 7 film deal...... Apparently his manager thought the Bond franchise was done....
Good!
His manager saved the world from looking at his ugly mug in 6 more films.
Maybe his manager knew that Lazenby was so ugly that he would kill the Bond franchise forever.
Imagine an actor hand selected like Lazenby to be an ugly Batman.
Imagine if Brion James was in a Batman film as Batman.

Theres no way he makes it 7 movies. He was Val Kilmer level difficult.

Tall, dark-haired, martial artist with an inappropriate accent.

Am I talking about Connery or Lazenby? I understand Brocoli's thought process. I don't agree with it but I understand it.

Rigg: I know and what a James Bond that was.He was a nightmare! Oh God, I wish it had have been Roger or Sean but no... I got George.

Perkins: What was so bad about George?

Rigg: Well he was stupid for starters. He was ghastly. He had read too many film magazines and thought that was the way you have to behave. Oh, he was ghastly. And I had to marry the man!

Perkins: Well, not for very long.

Rigg: No, thank God! When the shot went through the temple I went 'Uh, thank God.
'

Expect to get flamed but I never understood the Roger Moore hate. To me it’s Connery #1 Moore #2. One of my top 2-3 favorite Bond films is For Your Eyes Only & The Spy Who Loved Me is top 7-8.

Plus the zeitgeist of 60s - early 80s was the best fit for that character & concept so Lazenby’s agent may have been on to something but he was off by about 10 years

It was actually the reverse, his manager thought that the Bond franchise was dying and Lazenby's future wouldn't be bright 🤣🤣🤣

How is it possible to think Dalton is a better bond than Connery? Timothy Dalton does not think Timothy Dalton is a better Bond than connery.

he likely made that up. His manager probably just tried to soften the blow from getting exited from the franchise
