Was supposed to be promoted but wasn't

Is that where we are fellas? Really?

We cry because we get our piece of tape 2 weeks late? BJJ is losing its' prestigous....seriously.

f12 needs to be cleaned out..

To be fair, sometimes I want to whine like a bitch about something grappling related and F12 is the only place where my whining would be understood...even if people didn't agree.

That much I understand.

I still think the OP is lame though.

A stripe on a white belt? That's a concern?
Stripes are stupid. Worrying about white belt stripes even stupider.

well i didnt make our promotion either and i didnt worry then 2 months later he gave me 2 stripes on my belt instead of 1

but i just didnt care and left it alone because its just a peice of tape who cares :D

I wonder what Kurt Osiander's advice might be...

Don't worry TS. You'll get it one day. Hopefully, you won't be like other one stripers and quit.

Can I give him the stripe I have and don't want?

At white belt a stripe is something you are proud of. Blue through brown a stripe is just a target for other guys to say I beat X stripe belt. Then at black belt it shows a little bit of prestige(I prefer to tell that from the frayed belt though).

If you need stripes or belt color to keep you motivated, then you're in the wrong sport. Go do TKD or hapkido.

I forget that many bjj'ers ride a mighty high horse. It's not the biggest deal to me, as mentioned in the original post. I was asking to see if it were rude to remind what he told me twice, as it's an awkward thing to bring up. I decided it would be rude to mention it.

Thank you for the MATURE responses. It was just a simple question and I realize that the shock value was higher since I refrained from mentioning it wasn't a belt promotion but a stripe one in the thread title, thus the various silly responses.

Give it a break, please. Especially since you get one every sixth month and it's not skill-dependent. It doesn't mean anything. Work for the next belt, and good luck!

TS, you definitely shouldn't bring it up. You'll look like a complete jackass.

I personally wouldn't. Your skill and ability speaks more of you than the number of stripes on your belt. If you're getting good, your coach will know. Keep showing up, don't worry about rank.

I remember when I got my first stripe on my white belt I didn't even know what it was for. At first I was like "yeah sorry I see all the other guys with the stripes, but was too lazy to buy tape to make my belt official". I literally thought the stripes were part of the uniform.

In other words don't sweat stripes. I'm sure your instructor will see you rolling and be like oh shit I forgot to give him that stripe.

Waaaah. My purple belt graduation was delayed from sep 2010 to end of Jan 2011. When it finally came around I got my ass handed to me in over 35 degree heat for an hour without a break. So careful what you wish for! Keep quiet and keep training :P

Haha my coach does that nearly every grading night with the white belts. "Why do you only have two? Come here and get another two!"

Even without your location, I'd know you were in the US, because I've never met a Brazilian (who lived in Brazil, that is) who gave stripes on white belts. Just keep training, it's usually only 18 months to 2 years to blue if you train consistently, that should be your goal.
