Was Stipe That Bad, or Jones That Good?

Are you trying to say that after cleaning out the LHW division, never losing the title then moving up a weight class to beat the most accomplished HW he still hasn't earned your respect?

Those are some standards you got there..

I wonder where someone like me stands....
Are you saying that beating Mike Tyson with only 6 fights on your resume still hasn't earned your respect?

You're one of the few people i've seen even mention it. I get that people hate Jones on here so everything they post is meant to discredit him but geezus, they totally lose their ability to analyze fights at all.

You could literally see Stipe wince from the very first front kick Jones landed to his midsection. That and the ground and pound beating in rd 1 took a big toll and Jones kept right on with those kicks to the body till the final spinning back kick to the ribs. Instead, everything is about how Stipe was old, slow, stuck in the mud, less mobile than Tyson, etc, etc.

It's always amazed me on here how so many posters seem to view real fighting as a video game. They act like all Stipe needed was a power up between rounds but even with that, his being old, slow, and washed up was too much to overcome.
Yea Stipe looked fuckin amazing in rd1 before the gnp lol

I’m not acting that way. Jones looked good, but the clock is ticking and if he can’t find Aspinall within six months to a year then he needs to get out as well.

I do agree that Jones can't have another long layoff.

Hopefully the negotiations happen quickly, or else just retire like you said you were going to and leave the division to Tom.

42yo with a 3 year layoff, mf was looking like Glover vs Hill with his slow ass punches, no power, no nothing

Jones frustrated Stipe, Stipe became hesitant and got caught. Thats why he lost, yes Jones is that good but Stipe did not look bad, he looked in the best shape ever.

Do you think that he was slowed at all because Jones was working the body and beat the fuck out of him on the ground? No credit at all? Lol

Zero desire to win? He could have quit in the first round if that was true. Disrespectful.

I think that Jones being so good made him look worse than he really was. Against a normal HW, its much more competitive. Jones isn't normal.
Brother nothing says Stipe had mentally tapped was after the first round and Stipe literally groaned aloud once he hit the stool.

That’s the same groan I give when I realize it’s 8pm on a Sunday and I got work tomorrow.

For perhaps maybe a moment, Stipe thought “yeah, maybe I did miss this fight stuff afterall” — and then he sat down.

And the sinking realization of Stipe having to do this for potentially 4 more rounds hit him harder than anything Jon had hit Stipe with so far.

I’m not saying Stipe didn’t try to win(he did) but his gusto simply wasn’t there because he had already decided he was over this shit.

It’s like when you’re assigned to do something for work that’s completely out of your agenda for the day ya gotta do it, so you’re like “I guess I’m doing this for the rest of the day..”

It’s your job so you do it, but it wasn’t something you had a zeal for.

That was Stipe last night:
A man without zeal doing the deed.

Stipe was dead 5 seconds after the first takedown, and guess why? He's OLD as fuck and was fucking retired

LOL I make that same sound on Sundays too

I understand he is not who he once was of course that is absolutely the truth..

but I don't think Stipe mentally taps. Jones literally crumpled him to get him out of there with that nasty kick. He slowed him with body work and pounded the fuck outta him on the ground.

Jones deserves more credit for his work. He made Stipe look that bad because of what he did.

I think Jones obviously was very good. I think he made Stipe look out of his league. Jones is the greatest ever, and he is making these HWs look bad.

Stipe looked like he was in good shape and ready to go, but when you get in there with literally the greatest of all time.. he is capable of making ANYONE look like trash.

I wish Stipe well in his retirement, but I honestly don't think he looked as shitty as everyone is saying.. I think Jones is just THAT good.
Let me put on my glasses to see this question properly.

This fight was past it's expiration date. I think Stipe at least looked better than he did vs Frances in their rematch. Still, had this fight gone down 5 years ago, Jones still likely woulda got the win.

Nice strawman. I know you're a big Jones hater but you don't think he had anything at all to do with how bad Stipe looked?

Like I said, the Jones hate on here makes people incapable of analyzing his fights. You go in with a pre-concieved bias to start your argument.

I'd love to see him fight Aspinall who I think is a very formidable opponent but if Jones won you know damned well every Jones hater on here would claim he was never that good. Just like you all did with Gane.

Stipe looked the same he did in all the other fights from the past.

Jon just made it look easy, & showed he still has a ton left in the gas tank. I think Jon needed to feel that for himself as well.

Cool , he needs to Fight Tom now. Stipe isn't even a top 10 heavy weight.

I know one thing. Aspinall would have took out stipe in under 2 minutes
Stipe obviously wasn't particularly dangerous or likely to take advantage of a stopped blitz and Aspinall's biggest strength is the quality of his blitz, so that's what he should do. Jon played to his own strengths while almost completely avoiding taking damage, which is what he should do. That Jon took longer to stop Stipe than Tom would is neither here nor there.

Dricus probably would have beaten that version of Stipe. He was punching and walking like he was under water. Reaction time like he was half a bottle deep. Jon Jones is an all time great, but that fight wasn't won due to greatness. I have no desire for the Jones Mayweather arc. Handpick opponents for 'legacy' while stalling a division. Either be the champ for real or drop it and be the spectacle fighter.

Yeah this is MMA, we supposed to not let motherfuckers do that.
