Was Ryan Couture Thrown to the Wolves?

Most if not all of the Strikeforce imports have been given top 20 guys in their division. Same thing happened with the WEC.

With a lot of fans I think it's name value over actual skill. Ross Pearson's been in the UFC for a while, he's had some solid stoppages, and he was coming into this fight after the wicked KO over G-Sot. So he had some hype, and the fickle fans immediately shit on Ryan Couture for simply having the last name COUTURE. Probably never saw a single fight of his or are rehashing the "And Noons beat him idc what the record books say" bs that I've been hearing ever since Couture and Noons fought.

Like I said, Couture getting RP isn't nothing out of the ordinary. He was just coming off a solid win over KJ Noons, controversial as it might've been it wasnt Hamill-Bisping level controversial, maybe to the haters that fuel Doug Marshall. But the reality is that Couture fighting a top 20 guy isn't being thrown to the wolves. Nick Diaz coming over from Strikeforce originally to face GSP, now THAT is getting thrown to the wolves I don't care where Nick Diaz is ranked lol.

Ugh. I can name plenty of guys.

Caros Fodor
Mac Danzig
Yves Edwards
Isaac Valley-Flagg
Al Iaquinta
Jeremy Larsen
James Vick

Ryan is not ready for Thugjitsu. I also think Danzig would have taken a UD over him. Both those have way too much experience and much more technical striking than Ryan.

Roger Bowling
John Cholish
Jeremy Larson

And many many more. I could down down a huge list if I felt there was anything to prove. Just read people's comment, your challenge is an easy task to complete. These guys are still more experienced than Couture too.

Then everybody is a "wolf" to Couture.

According to fightmatrix.com Pearson moved up 18 spots in ranking to 26- meaning that he was ranked at 44 in all of MMA.

Not a wolf, despite Couture not being on the list.

Just evidently superior.

Your hilarious. Fighters are not wolves. It is a term we use when a novice is given to someone who is a big mismatch for them. Guys normally get built up.

LMAO@ thugjitsu!!

This thread is funny, arguments on both sides bringing the lolz!

I stick by my argument, next to Ryan Couture, Pearson looked like great grey wolf up against a puppy

If you look at those rankings, he's the 20th ranked UFC fighter. Also keep in mind that he's just now working his way back into the lightweight rankings after his stint at featherweight (probably explains why they moved him up 18 spots after a win over someone like Couture - just needs the wins).

Ryan Couture is ranked #86 in those rankings. Seems that, on the contrary, I do know what I'm talking about with rankings (CubicleGangster).

I know what the term means, and based on it's definition, almost everyone in the UFC is a wolf to Couture.

To me it's not a question of whether or not Couture was "thrown to the wolves", it's matter of whether or not he belongs in the den.

I disagree with some.on that top 50 list. I'll make my argument when I'm not posting from a phone.

That's fine. I have at least 30 more names that I didn't even use. Argue away at your convenience. Curious to see your argument for him being top 50 (nevermind the fact that he's not even top 75 in all likelihood).

Again, people are listing names that would be more equal matchups, and the actual list would be huge. I give up with you. It is almost as if you don't read anyones comments and just make shit up.

He lost, maybe he'll do better next time. How 'bout that isn't of the "wolf" outcries? If his last name was... Lakeford instead of Couture, would anybody care?

I used to think Noons was a great stiker but idk anymore, I think he is highly overrated. He has stunning hair Ill give him that, but hes a good fighter with good skills and exceptional tdd. Imo watching both Ross and KJ, I would say that Ross is a much better fighter and a better striker for mma.
Noons is a great striker. Just a couple of blemishes on his record like losing to Diaz and Krazy horse but robbed against couture

A pretty comparable fight in name value to Noons. Little Couture is just a little plain as a fighter still.

Has nothing to do with his name. Look at his record, look at Pearson's record. Watch his fights, watch Pearson's fights. It wasn't an even match to make. While I don't think Couture belongs in the UFC, there were a number of suitable, even match-ups for him with fighters outside of the divisional top 20.

If you just showed me their fights and I knew neither of their names, I'd point to Couture and say he's going to get his ass kicked.

I'm on a phone so I ain't searching for shit. Looks like most people here think Pearson is a top lw because he is in the UFC and beat a gsot who has been on a bad streak lately. Still don't see Pearson as a wolf nor Pearson vs Couture a mismatch. Pearson proved himself the superior fighter. Going from Noons to Pearson seems fine. I disagree with some.on that top 50 list. I'll make my argument when I'm not posting from a phone.

You're majorly overrating Couture. Whether or not Pearson is a top fighter is irrelevant because he's still way ahead of Couture.

This was a clear mismatch from the start.

Speaking of mismatches, Cerrone vs. Noons is another one.

It was an interesting match up. Good opportunity for Couture.

Pearson has a lot of power and is strong as hell for that weight class. I don't see Noons hanging with him, but what do i know?

There have been far bigger mismatches with surprising results.

Couture had an opportunity, he failed. Maybe he'll do better next time.
