Was Pride the most overrated organisation ever?

A lot of great fighters came from Pride, and it put on a lot of great fights, but it’s definitely overrated on this forum. People tend to forget the boring fights that pride put on. The ring was a terrible setup for MMA. Corner stalling was way worse than wall stalling; the corner was so hard to escape for anyone physically weaker than their opponent, but it also offered strong back support that made takedowns near impossible, and if the ref wasn’t on top of it, it could make for the most boring rounds in MMA.

Brings me back to another point, most of them were on steroids. I mean half of these guys have tested positive. So an organisation where most guys use steroids and the referees wears an earpiece

You think UFC guys were natty around 2000-2005? The testing was a joke. Pride had a better HW division hands down.

Like Wanderlei for example.
Dude had to be the most one dimensional fighter ever.
Only chance at winning fights was if you were stupid enough to brawl with him or were just a totally outmatched bum.

Just watched arona take him down at will with mediocre take downs and out strike him in a laughably bad stand-up battle.

I don't think Vanderlei is that overrated, I consider him as a legit champion and one of the greatest.
But let's pretend for a moment that he is like what you told, that he can only win fights brawling (that's your opinion, not mine)
Do you really think that wouln't make strong fanbase for him? Do you really think people didn't like brawlers then? Do you really think brawling was bad for the sport? Now do you?
Interesting username by the way, not saying I have the best either, but if you are using name JustBleed, and hating Vanderlei style, I think you have no idea of JustBleed and this sport.

A lot of guys came to the UFC from Pride and were completely destroyed. Wanderlei, Cro Cop and many more. Fedor has a bad record fighting in the US. Unless you prove yourself in the UFC you never know who is legit. You can't take an organisation seriously where the referee wears an earpiece. Chael summed it up perfectly

Your hero would get his head get soccerkicked back to Canada my dude.
Your mom is overrated.

You're criticizing me, but you can't even spell the man's name properly.
I'm not hating on his style at all, from an entertainment standpoint it's great, but for becoming an elite talent it is not very efficient.
Dude got brutally KTFO several times and/or got easily out grappled when he faced tougher opposition.
As far as my username, have you ever heard of the concepts of irony, satire, or comedy?

That's silly- some didnt fight to their press clippings and some did. Some came with alot of mma mileage - some wore it well and some didnt. They ,like SFORCE, are such an important time period / time line into UFC- you cant even guage it.

Let's see where the ufc/mma world is at in 3-4 years and we can re visit.

Even if you use it as irony. You should know that the fanbase breaths on brawling. No matter if we two like it or hate it. Thanks for correcting my typos, even if typed wrong, I still think I appreciated his career more than you, and even if I didn't. Let's pretend you appreaciate that more, and I less. Let's pretend that. Alright? we pretending that way... like I was saying... we pretend you appreciate more... you still don't manage to understand what makes some one superstar and fan favourite.

Yea, thats not even up for debate, Its the way Pride was run that brought them down, but as for fighters during that period its hard to say the UFC had better guys.

Well, the opposition used argument that i misspelled fighters name that I don't appreciate the fighter. So. had to make the opposition clear that even if I missapreciate some one, the opposition still doesn't understand what does it take to be popular in this game.

I never commented on someone's fan base or fame, I was purely talking about his skill set and accomishements as a fighter.

Pride put on some very exciting fights but people do romanticize and overrate it, just like they do to many other things from their glory days.

Pride fc had a lot of talented fighters. It was a legit organization that had better fighters than the UFC at that time.

Where things get blown out of proportion is when guys fall victim to nostalgia and try to compare it to what the UFC became after pride dissolved. Current UFC is far more legit than pride ever was, and has far deeper talent as well. The sport has evolved quite a bit since Pride despite what a lot of sherbros may believe.

"Nobody won those fights" -Chael Sonnon

It's hard to rate an organization know for fixing fights. Who knows who wouldve won those fights
