Was it a rules experimentation when Mark Coleman got head kicked by a shoe wearing dude?

Do sherdoggers not know what wrestling shoes are?
I recall someone like Ken say they could not wear shoes & kick to the head, but couldn't head kick if had shoes. Wrestlers liked the shoe option to give them more traction & help their takedown. The didn't really enforce the no kicks to head though.

one of the more emotional moments in UFC history. All the Lion's Den guys jumping in the cage going crazy was a sight to see.

Mark Coleman a real one he mi favourite slap scrappin' commentator real talks OGs know di #wagwan wif SFC

Not sure if you could tell from that one pic, but it wasn't exactly the first kick he landed that night.

Whatever the exact rules were, it was clearly established he could kick.

Maybe it was a bit casual like the no eye poke rule.

The first UFCs only allowed fighters to wear shoes if they weren't going to kick. Both Kenny Shamrock and Dan Severn took the opportunity to not kick and instead wear shoes to get a better grip on the floor

However, there is proof of shoe wearing guys later on that kicked ...

How long did the UFC allow fighters to kick in shoes? Was it banned the same time as gloves became mandatory?
I've been watching your avatar on loop for 5 minutes. That tiger has a poor defense but he does have a solid chin

When i first started watching UFC this and chucks HK on babalu were like the only HK they had and would replay all the time on Spike.

They were dying for a highlight real HK machine like crocop

Absolutely insane watching the impact of Mirko's savage head kick on Mark.

Hunt is one of the very few that absorbed that CroCop shot landing clean & not being knocked out. What a incredible chin Mark had !
Prime Hint chin right there. He'd be top 3 HW right now

Maybe it was a bit casual like the no eye poke rule.
Everyone kicked with shoes on, I honestly don't remember thete ever being a rule about no kicking until after ufc 22 when the dark ages kicked in. Chuck Liddel even wore them

One thing I dislike about shoes is that it rewards subpar technique.
Like if you throw a head headkick and it lands with your foot, you do more damage when you should be punished.

Same if it gets blocked and your foot connects with the opponent's elbow.
