Was Frank Mir right about flyweights?

Maybe you're one of the 130 lbs guys, because if you were around 220 pounds you'd see how easy you'd pick up a midget like that and throw him around as a Mc Donalds toy.

He just doesn't have the strenght to take you down or really threaten you a part from kicking your balls either.
There's a reason why there are weight classes.

You must be one of those obese basement dwellers who thinks mass> all. Uriah Faber would pop these dudes in the face ten times before they could blink.. Just look at that roger Huerta video

FLW division might be the most exciting division in the UFC today half the people bashing it don't even watch it probably. All the people bashing it save Mir would get sent to the hospital by these little guys.

I was thinking about something that Frank Mir said a while back, I dont have the exact quote, but basically, he said that nobody cares about flyweight fighters and their superior skill set because the average 220 pound bloke looks at them at thinks 'yeah so what, i could still beat them in a fight'.

It's obvious that the little guys dnt get as much hype or fan support as bigger fighters like Jon Jones, GSP etc - do you think there is any truth to Mir's statement? Even if it is unfair, and somewhat stupid.. is he right?

this is true. that's why mighty mouse fights on free cards. no one will pay to see him headline a card. you'll see rondaq headline before you see mighty mouse up there.

and i;m sure mir respects them because they are fighters. i don't think he meant that he doesn;t like watching them. i'm assuming he means the average fan. which he's right. i don't dislike the smaller guys but i'd say lightweight and welterweight fights don't excite me like the heavier classes do. and if its lw of ww its gotta be some exciting fighters or else i lose interest quicker.

Where do you guys live that a guy is 6' and weighs 220 lbs?
I have a friend who's a strong guy. At 6' when he's in shape he's around 185-195. I've seen him at 205 he was starting to get fat.

Faber would dance away land heavy leg kicks until the big guy went to pick one up. Then he'd get kicked in the head.

You'd be surprised how strong those midgets are. A life of grappling does that. Plus the speed and technique difference would be brutal. If you think a 80-100 pound difference will stop a world class fighter from easily outwrestling and manhandling you, you are incredibly delusional

because Frank Mir think of only UFC fighters lol.
he should know that fighting to the death in the street, even a flyweight like Mighty Mouse might has the better chance of killing Mir first for being faster.

Mir's favourite fighter is Miguel Torres. A 5'9 bantamweight fighter who mollywhopped a LHW fighter in his early career.

Clearly TS is wrong about some facts here.

I believe he went on to say that those people would be idiots, but that was not in TS post.

Frank was right about many casual and even hardcore fans thinking they could take a flyweight, and also right about those said people being idiots.

UFC 125er vs untrained +220er would look much worse than Fedor vs Zulu.

why not? I love freakshows. Benavidez has nothing to do, make him face some 250 pound tough guy in some FS1 co-main event. pay the moron that accept the fight with lifelong supply of PPV.

I'll definitely go but I'm far away just give me fly ticket, food and hotel with some pussy and I'm fine... uhhh american dream!

I don't know about flyweights, but some people don't realize how much bigger people that fight at 135-155 seem when you stand next to them, especially when they are not after a weight cut.

I walk around 180 (used to walk around at about 200) and I do train with people that weigh 60-65 kg and basically sometimes I feel like they're almost my size.

Some of Sherdog's 200 pounders would be surprised how big somebody like Renan Barao would be if they stood next to him. I'm not even talking about some 155 monster like Robin Van Roosmalen, Murthel Groenhart or Edson Barboza.

sorry for bringing this up again lol but... can somebody photoshop a frank mir ko face on Benavidez's body for me? i dont know how to photoshop gifs

Im willing to bet 46 of my hard earned dollars that Urijah Faber would wreck the average 200-230 lb man in a street fight.

SET IT UP!

but seriously the average man does not have a take down defense to stop an mma fighter (even a small guy) from taking him down and choking him out

The FLWs would wreck just about any untrained guy, BUT, one should consider that the reason people don't like them could be considered similar to the reason a lot here hate on WMMA...

The sad thing is most people do think that, which as anyone who has trains knows guys like Faber would fuck them up easily.

I'm about 5" 9 and 185 lb, MM would kill me.

All you have to do is work out naturally to realise the size and strength of ufc fighters (let alone skill).

Most people think themselves larger than the LW's but even weighing 175/180 pounds ripped is actually very big for a guy of normal height. Tibau is average height and huge, yet even his insanely mesomorphic frame makes LW.

A man of average height and genetics, after years of training, will be lucky to be FW sized. Yet they once received hate for "being too small". Lol

I like the flyweights but i still don't buy that they have "superior skill sets" to guys in other divisions. I never understood that thinking. It's not to say they have lesser, but why would a 125'er have superior skills? What makes those fights different is the pace, not the skill.
