I was thinking about something that Frank Mir said a while back, I dont have the exact quote, but basically, he said that nobody cares about flyweight fighters and their superior skill set because the average 220 pound bloke looks at them at thinks 'yeah so what, i could still beat them in a fight'.

It's obvious that the little guys dnt get as much hype or fan support as bigger fighters like Jon Jones, GSP etc - do you think there is any truth to Mir's statement? Even if it is unfair, and somewhat stupid.. is he right?

People might think that, but I bet someone like Urijah Faber or Mighty Mouse could wreck most 200 pound guys who don't train MMA seriously.

flyweights would wreck any untrained man regardless of their size

Yeah, no wonder De La Hoya, Mayweather and Nonito Donaire were obscure niche athletes while the Klitschko bros were making bank

Frank said that about the WEC and then went on to call those people idiots like Kneenutz said.

I know what you're talking about and that's not what he said.
Press conference for UFC 146 I think.

He didn't say no one cares about flyweights...he was answering a question about why heavyweight fighters are different than other fighters.

He said most people say because theyre bigger they can still beat a bunch of UFC fighters...but if you think that about heavyweight fighters you're stupid

The sad thing is most people do think that, which as anyone who has trains knows guys like Faber would fuck them up easily.

I'm about 5" 9 and 185 lb, MM would kill me.

The "average" 220 pound male can't run a mile under 7 minutes.

I think it certainly plays a factor. However there are also lots of people who can appreciate their incredible technique, quickness and conditioning.

I'm 6'5 235 pounds, quite strong and in the prime of my life.......mighty mouse would absolutely kick my ass :D

A lot of people just need to realize that they are not tough and stop with the macho pretenses.

how u know?

It's an assumption based on anecdotal evidence and the rate of obesity in North America. I was being generous, too. Your "average" 220 pound male probably struggles to break 7:30.

That's quite a statement there.

I would be very interested in seeing one fight a Vince Wilfork, JJ Watts kind of dude.

People don't think about boxing the same. MMA looks a lot more like a real fight. And peoples ego tells them those little fellas are harmless.

Frank Mir is right about how a lot of people think... and it's some of the reason for the mini fighters being less popular.

I have NO IDEA why I don't like watching them, but I don't. I just don't enjoy it. Am I a cheap fan? I'm I a
bad person? I dunno. I sit down, I turn the tv on, and I don't like watching the quick midgets weight classes.

I cant say I can even name a single flyweight, so yes, agreed with Mir. Middleweights, light heavies and heavies are by far the most exciting to watch in my opinion.
