Was Conor's second belt 'lucky'?

Wouldn't say lucky

However, if Khabib had the belt? Then obviously Conor would not have been champ, champ

- and RDA's and Eddie Alvarez's, Not in the sense that they won their title fights luckily, but in the sense that Khabib's stretch of injuries and inactivity throughout his early UFC career prevented him from reaching the title sooner. In a different universe, he never gets those injuries, and firmly places himself as champion before Mcgregor even gets the opportunity to go up and challenge.

also we wouldn't have to listen to bj fans pretend he's lw goat bc he has one more title defense, as if beating sherk, florian, and diego sanchez is more impressive than conor and dustin
In another universe the bear that Khabib wrestled mauls him and he never fights in the ufc or Khabib actually fights Tony in 2015 instead of pulling out and loses. In another universe your aunt was born with a cock and is actually your uncle.

Lucky that he had to fight Alvarez for the belt: yes.
Lucky how he won the belt: no, he destroyed Alvarez

This is what I'm getting at - multiple fighters legacies change drastically if khabib isn't hurt in those years. Neither RDA nor Alvarez would've likely become champions either.

In no way was Conor lucky to beat Eddie, he was lucky to not actually be fighting the best in the division

You don't think it's mildly interesting that without a period of injuries for one man, 3 lw champions would've likely never been champions?

Nothing lucky about it. In hindsight I don't think Alvarez was a great champion but Conor absolutely destroyed him and was also prepared to fight RDA. He was coming for that belt regardless of who held it.

Nothing lucky about him winning.

But he was definitely lucky that Alvarez was the champ and was ducking Tony and Khabib.

Gift title shot with a record of 0:0. Doesn't count. He'd never earn it, he is already 1:1.

However if... Tony had the belt.. perhaps Khabib wouldnt have won it.. then because of his cable injury perhaps he would have been stripped.. and Poirier would have won a vacant title from Max... and blah blah blah..... are we living in an alternate reality here??? NO. Back to reality.
Was actually hoping you were seriously considering the potential fallout from that because it would be pretty interesting. Tony and khabib are the clear top two in the division yet it's taken so long for one of them to win the belt

Nah, as fun as it is to shit on Conor and his accomplishments sometimes, I don't believe it's luck. Khabib for a moment was one of those guys who didn't make it to the cage due to injury, weight issues, inactivity, etc. The only lucky part about his second belt is that he was not stripped of the 145lbs belt sooner, other than that, I would say he put the work in and earned that title with his most impressive performance ever (imo)

Totally, 100%.

0 fights at Lightweight in the UFC, instant title shot.

Refused to defend it, stripped of it, then battered when given a shot at it.

Most overrated fighter in MMA history.

It wasn't lucky but...... if RDA hasn't got injured and pulled out of the fight with Conor I think RDA would have beaten him.
Nate coming in at late notice and winning meant a Nate rematch and not a RDA fight next for Conor, RDA fought Eddie while waiting and lost and then Conor beat Eddie.

So it wasn't luck that meant he beat Eddie but it was a sequence of events that led up to them fighting as it should never have really happened.

Khabib being injured, fat etc had nothing to do with it. Khabib was on the prelims when Conor beat Eddie.

TS obv made this thread to fantasize about the idea that Khabib might habe already been champ by the time when Conor moved up.
But lets not forget the first fighter who got screwed by all the Conor stuff was Tony Ferguson who would have been next in line.

Anyways the thread is stupid. Conor won the title fair and square.

Not lucky, he is fortunate though that he got a shot against one of the easier LW champs of the last few years.
