Think I've said it before itt, but I love the black-and-yellow colour scheme. Those enforcer models look cool, but the paint job is what makes them stand out.

Chaos cultists need more birds...

I'm not usually into fan fics. But I was reading the gathering storm and different supplements about Roboutes return.

I just can't help thinking about how fucking awesome it would be that since he is back they should bring back 1 or 2 other loyalist primarchs. They were always my favorite characters in the fluff because of their nuances.

I think they should write another in by having Roboute having to go up alone against like, Fulgrim and Magnus and maybe Abbadon all at once on a battlefield and they have him out and on his knees.

They are like, "You are alone brother. And broken, now you will join us or die."

Then like this deep voice says,
"But he isn't alone."

And Boom. Vulkan and Lion come out swinging and jack those Daemon Prince fucktards up.

I mean they are the two most likely to return. With Lion being in stasis and Vulkan effectively being an Eternal.

I just downloaded Dark Imperium. Cant wait to jump into this

Warlord Update:
I now have almost all of the parts that needed to be split and printed in multiple pieces epoxied together. I also have almost everything fitted with the exception of the shoulders which are going to need a bunch of sanding on their mating surfaces. My next big step to to get the torso pieces sanded/filled/prepped for paint so that I can epoxy that whole chunk together. It's about a dozen pieces so it'll be a bit fiddly to get together and will need multiple steps because there's basically three layers: the base, the lower walls, and the upper walls. Anyways, have some pictures of dry-fit assemblies!

This is about the worst possible angle for this picture but it was the best I could manage while holding it in place.

Could you clarify something about this post?
I always wear my A.D.D hat when I visit sherdog, so I don't really remember the specifics of your titan project. You didn't actually draw and print the guns in these pictures, did you? Just the armor plating surrounding them. Because if you cadded the guns, that means you are really good at it, and that your printer is extremely high quality.

But I'm assuming not, right?

Side note:

I've been playing around with sketchup some more. Starting to get the hang of the program now. Things that took hours in the beginning is cut to a fraction of that time once you learn how to do use the software properly. Well, properly-ish.

Think I still got a ways to go before I can start printing my own models though. I whipped together a model of a hobbit riding a mastiff over the last week. On screen it don't look half bad (for a beginner), but once you start looking at the formalities it is a complete mess. There's a whole list of things like manifold, normals (right side out), wall thickness et cetera that I'd never heard about when I started out (and didn't bother to read up on beforehand).

Far as I know (until I get a chance to actually print it), the model below might be irrevocably broken and won't ever be fit for anything but making screenshots of. So that's... oh, 30+ hours of work down the drain? Well, guess it's still a net gain considering I've learnt some 3d modeling in the process.

Is that a steam Don Quichote?

Is that a steam Don Quichote?

Yeah, something like that...

Basic concept* was a bunch of hobbits that have been captured by trolls/orcs, and are kept locked up in their pantry. But lo they break out, and arm themselves with anything they can get their hands on in the kitchen area.

So the armor on this particular guy, who I guess must be their leader, is a copper still (because trolls like their hooch), plus a bunch of pipes and the like. Same with the lance. Now I don't know if stills actually have steam whistles, but I then again this was a trial run, and not exactly a serious attempt at authenticity.

Helmet is a beer stein, shield is a stove door, pauldron is a sieve, saddle is a towel, et cetera. Dog is, I dunno, a guard dog that lives in the kitchen I guess. Basic concept for him was "booze hound". But really I just felt like making a mount. The scales are completely off, but again this was mostly a trial run. And the good thing about doing this in a 3D program is that every component can be rescaled should you want to adjust things.

*I know how absolutely weird it sounds to make up elaborate concepts for stuff like this, but I really do think it helps with giving the models character and coherence. I've made a couple more hobbit models that are part of this "series" so to speak, but they are even earlier attempts than the dog guy, so they look like crap.

I did not model the guns, no. But I did print them. My printer is a MakerGear M2 and is at the upper end of the consumer FDM printer segment.

That said, I could have modeled them if I really wanted to. I have 20 years of casual modelling experience. But it would have been a huge time sink and somebody else had already done it. Doing basic mechanical shapes like that is really not that difficult if you're working from a reference. The creativity required for creating something like that from scratch is the hard part, not the modeling itself.

These are all the parts that that I modeled myself:
my parts - face.jpg my parts - full.jpg my parts - legs.jpg my parts - rear.jpg my parts - top.jpg

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but looking at the pictures and assuming the scale is for a tabletop figure then that's pretty much unprintable. All the spindly bits like the tassels, the toes, the tip of the lance, the chain, the loop on the funnel helmet, they are all too small of a feature. An FDM printer wouldn't be able to print them at all (most have a single-pass line width in the 0.3-0.4mm range and a single-pass feature is extremely weak and likely to break during printing and almost guaranteed to break during handling) and with an SLA/DLP printer they'd be too weak to be handled.

Designing something just as a 3D model and designing something for printing are two different balls-of-wax. Wall thickness and the size of features are major issues that have to be considered for printing. As a general rule of thumb: never make a feature smaller than 2mm if you can help it, and anything with a cross-section less than 5mm is going to be prone to breakage.

But as a beginner you're off to a great start. I hope that you continue to work on your ideas.

I laughed so hard at this, thats much cooler than I thought! You are a creative mind.

I kinda figured as much. The problems with some parts being too delicate I guess could be fixed, if one was inclined to invest the time and effort. It's mostly a matter of scaling up certain parts, and maybe removing some others to simplify the model. The figure could probably stand some scale distortion (oversizing ropes or other fiddly bits) without becoming too ugly. In fact, there are parts of it you'd basically have to distort in order to make it fit with the Warhammer aesthetics.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to break the model up into more separate pieces as well (making the weapon a separate model, and the head, and the barrel, and so on) to make it easier for the printer to actually print the pieces without adding a billion support structures.

But it would be a lot of work, and like I said the model is a mess in a number of other ways too. Vertices that don't connect to edges, holes everywhere, overlapping faces and so on. There seems to a be a lot of plugins and online apps that are supposed to be able to help repair faults like that, but I think it might be better to just discard the model and start over from scratch.

I'll probably have a go at printing the model anyway, once I have access to a printer again. Even if it comes out looking like a John Carpenter creature it'll give an indication of what works and what doesn't.

I agree id like to see the lion return to feck some demon primarchs up hes always had the most badass lines from his speech to curze to impaling a fateweaver and asking 'did you forsee that?'
Recent snippit i posted about alpha legion legionary ( possibly secretly alpharius) talking to him he dropped another fucking golden nugget
'I do not keep this sword at my belt for idle show so if you value your neck then start speaking the truth '

His return would be amazing and would free up the dull writing block gw writers seem to have with the angels focusing on the fallen and switch to the other more interesting aspects of their chapter

Thats what id like to see ....almost as much as the upcomming siege of terra 'fight card'
Sigismund vs a dozen or so chaos champs including kharn the betrayer
The khan vs fulgrim......can the kharn back up his sick burn of the peacock?
Khan vs motarion 2....apparently we get this if we like it or not
Vulkan vs anyone : hes on terra lets see him back up his claim of physicaly strongest primarch
Sangy holding the gate then vs horus

Main event horus vs emps

I'd like to get opinions on casting Horus Heresy characters and I thought this would be a fun way to do it.

I'll post a casting choice of mine and you can like it if you agree. If you don't agree post a better choice. If you liked my casting but think someone made a better choice unlike mine and give them the like so we can keep tally of who the favorite choice for a character is.

Let's go big for the first casting.

400px-Lord_of_Mankind.jpg

For the Emperor of Man I chose Michael Fassbender. I think he could capture the Emperor's intensity as he did with his role as Magneto and the Emperor's arrogance and aloofness as he did with his role as David in Prometheus and Covenant.

342full.jpg

Bonus pic of him from 300 looking a bit more Emperor like.

What do you think?

Feel free to start castings for any character you'd like to.

I really can't stand Funko Pops, but I got a good giggle out of this new version. Now in shameful grey! [LINK]

the emperor of man is usually quite dark skinned. I think a Banderas or a Smits would be great as his welcoming/benevolent face that he shows.

Fassbender could be a good Garviel Loken IMO.

Ramy Malek as a young uncorrupted Ahriman could be good altruistic and loyal more to magnus and his magical abilities.

The Vikings dude is a pretty obvious casting for the wolf.

Maybe D’Onfario as Malgohurst

Indeed, Emperor has European features but black hair and olive skin.
Also we need to remember that all the primarchs were a sight to behold, imposing, and all of them were beautiful, even if in some of them like Angron, Kurze or Mortarion it was distorted.

Banderas as Emps. Or Fedor, since we are on an MMA forum <Fedor23>
Liam Neeson as Malcadore
Fassbender can be Lion.
Jared Leto as Fulgrim
... as Perturabo
... as Khan
Hemsworth as Leman Russ
Josh Brolin as Dorn.
Tom Hiddleston as Curze
Armie Hammer as Sanguinius
... as Ferrus Manus
... as Angron
Henry Cavill as Guilliman
Mads Mikkelsen as Mortarion
... as Magnus
Jon Hamm as Horus
Cillian Murphy as Lorgar
Idris Elba as Vulkan
Keanu as Corax.
... as Alpharius/Omegon

@GhostZ06 get your Salamander ass over here and help me out!

My choice for Horus Lupercal would be Joel Edgerton.

I think he could pull off loyalist Horus and corrupted Horus.

He was miscast as Pharaoh but I still liked Exodus of Gods and Kings and liked his performance.
