So if you use up 8 spools, do you know if that means the finished titan will end up actually weighing 8 kg, or is there material loss along the way?
Like, failed prints you'll have to discard, or I dunno, evaporation during the melting process, or whatever.
Don't really know why I care about this, I just do. Guess it might be triggering memories from back when I used to cast miniatures, and I'd be buying tin, lead or various alloys from all kinds of sources. You'd end up with a lot of slag, or dross, or whatever it's called, from the cheaper metals.
A couple pictures to help illustrate. First is my discards can. It's mostly random supports (they print at 35% fill so there's less in there than it looks) but there's also one failed print where the spool had a bad spot (a very rare occurrence and one that's almost impossible to catch). Second is a currently printing piece to to show the infil pattern and a couple small support pieces.
Warlord Project: More modeling, solid progress being made.
I've kept up the modeling the last couple days and now have the legs and pelvis armor basically done. Here's a shot of everything together actually looking like a titan:
I've also started work on modeling the Lucius head. It's different enough that I need to do the whole thing from scratch. And I can't really crib off the FW Lucius Alpha head because it's not really a faithful update of the original epic model, it's more of a Lucius shape warped through the design language of the Mars pattern. I've still got a long ways to go to get everything fitted and detailed but I'm super pleased with the progress so far and wanted to share:
So the doodads are just there to give a little visual interest and will be changing significantly but I'm really happy with the basic shape of the plating which is the biggest hurdle to capturing the essence of the original. I'm hoping to get it done either tomorrow or Friday and then I can move on to the upper body (...oh god, that's going to be a nightmare).
Warlord Project: Well that was a pain in the ass
Good god, finishing that head was a fight. My modeller just did NOT want to cooperate. Getting some of those surfaces to mate was like pulling teeth. What should have taken like two hours ended up taking five. Oh well, at least it turned out excellent:
I thought horus like made his head explode or something. I'll have to reread the fluff on the battle of Terra.
Edit: ok I think they changed his death scene. I guess
No horus was vapourised
Sangy if i recall was strangled to death, walked into it knowing he was doomed due to his precog powers
Theres a great moment while walking into the hall to confront horus and feels his wings twitch , he thinks about how much he wanted to fly just one more time before the death he knew was comming
Seems like GW is selling specialist games by the bucketful nowadays. Or "boxed games", which I think is what they're calling them post-company revamp.
They relaunched tabletop Necromunda
and they've got Adeptus Titanicus (NEwpic)
tabletop Blood Bowl
Speed Freeks which I think is like Gorkamorka?
Kill Team, whatever that is
Warhammer Underworlds, whatever that is
I think they relaunched Lost Patrol a while back
They released some sort of assassin-themed game a while back, don't know it's exact name or current status.
And I don't know what the status is for Space Hulk,Battlefleet Gothic or Mordheim but I'm guessing they're either supporting tabletop versions of them again, or plan on doing it eventually.
I think it's really cool that they're giving plenty of options (albeit hellaciously expensive), but from a business perspective I'm curious if such a large product catalogue can pay off. Makes me wonder if it's more about reclaiming certain market segments, i.e crushing niche competitors. Or even about retaining rights to IPs.
Edit: I kind of like the Sanguinius model posted above, by the way. There's some wonkiness to it (like what's going on with his legs. And something's off about the wings, maybe they're too static or something), but I really like the head, hair, left hand position and the way he's holding his sword. Very whatumacallit, Raphaelian.
Lots of classic depictions of Michael are along these lines and that's obviously what they were going for, the pose just looks funky (might just be the angle).
The 3D Printed Warlord Blog #3 The Lucius conversion is done (at least the 3D modeling)
I'm done with the 3D modelling part of my Lucius conversion. I'll show some pictures and then talk about the challenges and why I had to make some of these changes.
Full view:
Just my parts:
Other angles:
If you're familiar with the artwork and the old Epic/Titanicus model you'll notice there's a couple major changes. The shoulders and laser-blasters are significantly different in my model. This largely comes down to working off the existing superstructure of the Mars pattern model. If I wanted to have a more exact match to the original I would have had to discard the existing shoulders and laser-blasters, and probably needed to redo the arms and arm-mounts as well. It would have been a ton of extra work. So I decided to make some concession. I'm still really happy with how it turned out and I don't think the changes detract from the impact of the model. Doing it this way also makes the shoulder weapons modular in a way that they never could have been if I kept the original design. With this system you just lift off the weapons and plop on a new one: super easy.
A big part of the challenge was mating to existing parts. Below are some example pictures that show all the cutouts and mounting surfaces that I had to replicate from the existing Mars design and then mate my new parts to them. This was especially hard because the modeller I use, Rhino 3D, is a NURBS modeller and the source files are polygonal meshes. The two systems are not really compatible. I had to do a lot of vertex-by-vertex picking out of edges to rebuild the necessary surfaces. For some this was easy, but for others (the shoulder mount in particular) it was a huge pain in the ass.
Before I start printing out all this crap (probably a two week proposition) I wanted to open it up to criticism. Is there anything that looks off or that you just don't like?
Oh, and since not everybody is going to be all that familiar with the source inspiration for the project, here's the main pictures I used to get my design cues from:
EDIT: I've decided to add a couple more pictures
This is a popular "ground view" shot that GW tends to use for it's big titan models for its art shots
This is a "ghosted" view that gives a better idea of the restrictions I was dealing with when using the existing shoulder superstructure. Getting a pleasing shape that also fit around this piece was not an easy task. You can see the cutouts and mating notches that needed to be made.

Soon the siege of terra will be finaly released man until then theres snippets here and there in the vast libary of books
If u want just an overview of any lore the 40k wiki or lexicanium is a great start...or even 4 chan
40k theories on youtube has a brill audio version of the current cannon death of horus vs emps
Until seige of terra books finaly released that version is canon
The best books are the first ones and anything by Aaron Dembsky Bowden
I religiously bought the HH books, and then got to a point I went to a library, then it seemed they were just milking their cash cow. I’m not going to buy 50 books to tell a story that could be told in a couple big books
