Warhammer 40k

I just watched that video, and the 'introduction to 40K' and holy shit.... and I thought the Star Wars EU was deep with 50+ novels set after Ep6 'Return of the Jedi' alone.

This looks like its way too much for me to get into.

I guess what I like about Starcraft and Star Wars is its character driven. With 40K you have to keep up with entire factions at war with eachother, and that's a bit too much for me to get into.

It's not hard, and you're not supposed to know everything. It's purposefully absurd and dense to the point where nobody is supposed to know everything, or even a good portion of what's going on at any time.

Hell, they don't even know what year it is in the Imperium. They're quite possibly like 3,000 years off.

All you need to know is most everyone but the Tau or Eldar will attack just about anyone if given the chance, and there's always fighting, like everywhere, lol.

Starcraft always gave me a Heavy Metal vibe

Never seen the movie, I just know the South Park episode. :D

Starcraft, for me, revolves around Kerrigan. She's one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, at least in the original game + Blood War. They kinda nuked her character for Starcraft 2, though she did have a few awesome moments.

What's crazy is that's just the primer before the Eldar take charge of the galaxy and the entity that nearly destroys them, long before humans (us) enter the picture as major players. I really like how it's a future of ours, with a deep backstory and insane future.

Watch more in that guy's lore playlist. There are many important characters (link below). The problem 40K has is it doesn't have its Star Wars film, or even a strong narrative-driven game, at least nothing i've played/seen. I'd love an anime!

Thankfully there are so many streaming services that need fresh content, so expect some high end Warhammer stuff, especially if the Eisenhorn series does well, that's in production of some sort as we type.

The guy behind this played a big role on the X-Files and the Man in High Castle. I'm excited!

The best thing I've seen is the "Astarte" animated shorts

Don't forget Helsreach.

Don't forget Helsreach.

By the Emperor, this is incredible!

I love this narrator from some of the Heresy books I've recently listened to, he's the best so far IMO. This is like a motion comic/audio drama, amazing stuff! Thank you for sharing!

I'm now on Legion in the Heresy series (about two hours in). I'm doing it by release. I have loved every book, as each brings us new illumination into the world. Legion started off a bit slow, as it's set two years before the Heresy, but it's really picking up.

Grammaticus gives us the best insight into the Emperor so far, even if it's just a few lines. I'm still really new to the universe, so no spoilers, but I love how they keep drip feeding us things about him. I can feel his glow/pull lol

Lol. I still haven't even decided on a primer color.
Depends on what color you'll be putting on top and what kind of finished look you want. Darker primer = darker finish. If you want a nice bright color you really should be priming in white. You can also do zenithal priming where you do a black primer and then do a second coat of white primer angled down so that the bottoms stay black. For this kind of pre-shading to be worth it you really need to take your time to do light coats with your color or else the effect won't be noticeable at all in the finished product.

The old models I have are all ultramarines so I'm definitely going that way for these as well. Undecided between Grey primer (will take longer but will look better) or Ultramarine primer (saves time and can focus on accent colors/detailing)

Yeah the book Helsreach is awesome. Grimaldus is such an example of how single minded the Black Templar are. Hes a complete dick to so many, including other chapters. But his sense of honor is absolute.

Also the Siege of Terra novels are good. Same with the Primarch novels. The Lion's book shows how absolutely badass the first is, as well as The Lion himself.

Nothing wrong with a color primer. It's really not that different from basecoating with an airbrush. I say skip the tedium.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll get to all of them. I knock off an audiobook every few days at work and cleaning lol.

I just met the Lion in Descent of Angels, book prior to my current. What an origin story! I didn't realize all the Primarchs were literally whisked away like that. I recall Horus surviving on his own somewhere too, but I thought it was propaganda for him. I can't wait to meet all 20 of them in various books

This stuff is so damn compelling! I'm only in 31st millenium, I can just imagine how insane things get

No Spoilers! :D

I just saw another cool animation. The Fulgrim novel gave me the best description for how deadly Astartes can be. They are huge, intelligent, have beastly armour, but it's their speed/agility that makes them extra terrifying.

In all the games I've played, they either looked like cool little figurines, or lumbering tanks

This guy really captured how I imagine the Warp to be too

Picked up the ultramarine primer and the contrast top coat, I'd like to get them done some time in the next year, lol.

Early contender for worst model of the decade?
