Multiplat Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader CRPG (Dec 7). 2023 only gets better!

I finally started playing it for real a few weeks ago. It’s really good in some ways. The stories and the role playing elements are all excellent and very old school grim dark 40K. It’s very well written.

It’s very slow paced though. There’s a ton of reading. The absolute worse part is traveling around the map of the universe. You keep getting bogged down in these random encounters trying to travel from one solar system to another. It’s very frustrating actually.

As for the new DLC, I just got that character. She’s insanely OP. Like, makes my previously OP fighter look tame.
Are you still playing? Do you know how the insight mechanic works to make warp travel safer/easier? i never saw it explained in game, which is stupid because you can soft-lock yourself in Act 2.

I was just talking about space travel with a buddy of mine. He didn't understand the insight mechanic so he was getting frustrated too and soft locked himself. I had no idea what it was either a couple of weeks ago, but luckily never had it cost me.
I used this tutorial.

The best tip he gave is to make direct travel between your main home systems green (safe) or at least yellow. You often have to go between those system for some story related thing. For everything else I try to get it to yellow (not safe) Rarely anything bad/costly happens. I'll use the orange (dangerous) pathway too from time to time if I feel like fighting/getting loot/xp.

Not sure if he says it here but you get 1 free insight every time you chart new routes from a new map area.

I kind of stopped playing in the third act. I’ll probably pick it up again.

I did have a good grasp on the insight system and I unlocked everywhere you could go in act 2 at least. I was being fairly conservative with my insight because I didn’t know if I would need it in future acts or what. I really just got kind of frustrated with the random encounters because they weren’t very challenging anymore and it takes like 15-20 minutes to get through a fight. When you have to do that three times just to get where you’re going it gets pretty tedious.

So, is the game worth it?
If you like CRPG's, then absolutely. The writing, characters, voice acting, build varieties and combat are all top notch. There's also ship combat, and tons of mechanics like trade, contracts, exploration and colony projects etc... that add a lot to the game too, but can be confusing.

Be sure to get the first DLC, as the story is really well integrated into the campaign and the extra character you get is awesome.

I'm a big fan of Owlcat and this is by far their best game yet.

I’m on my second playthrough right now after they patched and fixed the game. Pre patch officer was by far the best class. Now I think it’s either bounty hunter or pysker soldier.

Let me know if you find any space marines

I have Argenta as Soldier/Bounty Hunter, it's so much fun now that I got her using a heavy bolter to go with a Sniper I've been using for a while.

I really like warrior/Vanguard and warrior arch militant. I'm the Vanguard and Abelard is the Militant. I send us in different directions in fights and go chopping, it's so gratifying lol

How do you run your squads? I tend to break mine up into 2 similar groups. Me and Abelard are the melee, with Cassia and either Heinrix or Idira as buffers/psykers. Argenta and good old Pasqually are generally always in as ranged.

Kibella gets a lot of use, either replacing Abelard, Heinrix or Idira, as she's so much fun. I'll bring in Yrliet if there's some Drukhari/Eldar thing going on. Jae's prob the one I never really use.

Where the hell is this beast? I think he's the last party member to find? I'm assuming he's a Space Marine, but please don't spoil too much. I'm about to start act 3, so I'm guessing I'll find him there?

This play through my guy is operator Assasin , I lays the stacks and if you get in close I chop you with my chain axe if you’re far I snipe ya.

Abelard is my main tank and he’s the vanguard , his charge is insane with the build and equipment he has. If you’re half across the board Abby gonna get in close still with one turn and go stabby stab with his chain sword. He’s always front line taunting and soaking as much damage as he can.

Heinrix and Kibellah I’ll swap in and out depending if I want psyker attacks or another vanguard defending and buffing everyone. Kibellah is whom I’m romancing this playthrough so she’s my toons bodyguard lol and never strays too far from her Domin .

Pasqual is my toons home boy he’s a bounty hunter operative so I can build stacks and just nuke people from afar with a melta or plasma . I tend to use him for range cause he a bit squishy.

Yrliet is just a one hit sniper who hits anything from across the field and I can get to generally 3 attacks a round.

Idira Cassia and Jei I use for their companion quests other than that they stay aboard the ship.

So I don’t spoil anything, how far in act 3 are you?

I'm only about to wrap up Act 2, think I have one main mission left, and there's one with the mutant star station with all those turrets, which I think is optional. My ship was too weak when I first went up against it, can't wait for payback!

I'll prob jump back in tonight. The game has been on mind all day lol.

There’s a merchant over in the footfall galaxy where you can upgrade your ship and get some awesome weapons and armor .

All I’m gonna say is in act 3 be very careful and look everywhere for Ulfar. My first play through I missed him and had to load 10 hrs of gameplay just to go back and get him

Think I'm around 35 hours in and still on chapter 1. This game is epic.

I'm playing as an officer and it almost feels like cheating lol, granting people buffs and extra turns constantly, also I just picked up the dlc character and she is a beast.

Wait till you get 3 officers in your party, extra turns for everyone 😝

Thx man, glad to have someone in here who has gone through the game already.

I just finished Act 2, what a cool finale and surprise new location to start Act 3.

I played a good 110/115 hours on this playthrough and only a hour into Act 3, fucking bananas! Get ready for a long haul @Fraz lol. Wrath of the Righteous was quite long too, but it felt like a lot of bloat. Outside some repeat battles (which I could have avoided) when traveling through the warp, I've enjoyed every minute of playtime so far.

I love Kibellah. One of the little details I love in this game is taking a bath. Servants strut in with a tray of Final Fight style healing chicken, and you can bring various party members down to entertain you. By far the best is Kibellah down there. Her idea of relaxing is choking me while drowning me near death lol.
