War Room OT Discussion v3

I bought BP at like $33. Seems like there's plenty of room to grow considering it was at like $80 when the gulf spill happened. ABBV has done pretty well for me too. Bought that at $65 or so. Cashed out in the $80's then decided to jump back in at $92. Dumb move on my part with the indecision.

You need grip strength. Iron hands. I read a post on reddit the other day that said the market is about the patient beating the impatient.

Tolstoy said the same thing in War and Peace: The name of the two greatest warriors are time and patience. Nowhere is that more true than investing. Another famous line from that book. When in doubt, do nothing. Doing something is very easy. Reacting is very easy. Staying calm and letting things unfold is hard.

I loved this scene from Boardwalk Empire. I wanna be Rothstein:

There was a great exchange between three of the old school gangsters last night onBoardwalk Empire that had some pretty strong parallels to trading.

Atlantic City boss Nucky Thompson finds himself besieged by rival mobsters and the US district attorney’s investigators. He meets with Chicago gangster Johnny Torrio and Manhattan’s gambling kingpin Arnold Rothstein to plot his next move…

Torrio: “What are you gonna do?”

Nucky: “What would you do, John?”

Torrio: “Kill the prick,”

Nucky: “I’m under indictment. The Feds are up my ass…”

Torrio: “Then take it with you. Retire somewhere.”

Nucky: “Take what? All my money’s tied up in a land deal.”

Rothstein: “Nothing.”

Nucky: “I beg your pardon?”

Rothstein: “You have no move, Mr. Thompson. You do nothing,”

Torrio: “He’s under attack, Arnold.”

Rothstein: “All the more reason for patience. I’ve made my living, Mr. Thompson, in large part as a gambler. Some days I make 20 bets. Some days I make none. Weeks, sometimes months in fact, when I make no bets at all because there simply is no play. So I wait, plan, marshal my resources and when I finally see an opportunity and there is a bet to make, I bet it all.”

Sometimes, the best move is to do nothing. This applies to when unclear event risk rears its ugly head or in the midst of a market melt-up in which one finds himself under-invested.

Rothstein was one of the great speculators of the 20th Century – in part because he had a habit of setting the odds a tad bit more in his own favor (wink wink) than many would have liked. Here’s a real-life bio of the man who fixed the World Series…

Males get a double dose of the stinkies. In addition to their concentrated urine, they produce powerful hormones and pheromones that they turn loose in their pee. Male cat urine is full of testosterone, signalling to nearby males to stay away and letting females know there's an available fella nearby. It also contains felinine, an amino acid that is basically a pheromone signal designed to attract the ladies.

Gonna rub some of that on my next time I'm feeling frisky. See how the wife responds.

I would honestly rather rig the World Series than win it. lol. Rigging it is more impressive.

I hear ya'. I've ridden the ride down to (cough Garmin cough). Just cashed out of a couple mutual funds focused on China. They've done precious little over the last three to four years so time to move on.

lol. I got fitbit who compete with Garmin on some stuff. Garmin is a good company. Fitbit is not. I am too overinvested in tech in general or else I would get Garmin. Thinking of McDonald's now. I held two of the biggest losing stocks yesterday. Apple and Micron. Tesla been down big too. I was thinking of selling it at 340 a week ago. Now it is 311. lol. I am sure it will pop back but this shit is crazy.

I think this is a seller's market in general and was gonna sell those stocks at next bump and buy back at inevitable correction. So I would have money to buy at low prices. Maybe the correction is happening now.

Kept thinking of getting in on Eli Lilly but never pulled the trigger. I like stocks that pay a dividend.

Sitting on about 25k right now and looking for somewhere to invest. Not sure if I should just wait for the next big dip overall.

Dividends are for pussies. Buy Ford then. I want to get in on these ipos. I am on robinhood which doesn't have as large a selection as many other brokerages. It is free. So you get what you pay for. Anyway, this Iclick company. They have a patent on these pop sockets and sell other weird electronic devices for pets and stuff. I knew this thing would go up on first day. Couldnt buy it though.

I missed Roku a few months ago. That stock has been on fire. Next IPOs I am looking at are Vizio. That cheap TV company. Dole foods. Pretty huge fuckin company. Having an IPO soon too.

25k? You are good. Hold it till you see some bargains. Mark Cuban recommends holding most of your assets in cash. And then jump in when an opportunity pops up. He is what is called a tactical trader. So am I. We don't have larger gameplans. The market is dynamic and we must keep up with its changes.

Lol. I'm a pussy then. Not that I'm opposed to investing in the right situation without any.

I'm using my 401(k) brokerage account. For better or worse, it's managed by Wells Fargo.

Hard to believe Dole isn't already public.

Another thing about cats. I watched a good netflix documentary on them recently. They have shit eyesight way up close. Almost blind and lose binocular vision. That is why they cant see their food unless it is right in front of their face.

No kidding, that's interesting. I thought my cat was just being a finicky bitch about it, because he likes when I readjust his food into a neat pile halfway through. Never would have thought of this.

I never thought of it either. lol. I told a lot of people. My mom. friends. And they were all like, "So that explains it.." lol. I thought they were being picky as usual too but they can't fuckin see lol. They have good vision otherwise.

it had a few other things I didnt know. If you have netflix, look it up. dont know the name but cat documentary. Just like an hour long. I think I also learned that vikings favored orange cats and orange cats are more common in places scandinavia and British Isles to this day.

Oh, The Lion in your Living Room I think.

French bulldogs are among the dumbest dogs, doesn't know its name or how to sit or stay, wont pee outside because its cold then he pisses on my floor. We are babysitting a friend's poochy the Fucking thing snores all day even when awake, struggles to breathe or move. It's damn well near criminal these things are created at $2200 a piece with a punched in face and are useless. I wish my old cat was still alive to teach this thing a lesson on survival of the fittest.

Anyone using the Sherdog app? Thoughts?
Haven't tried it, but I wonder if you can navigate from a thread back to the main WR page on it. On this site's mobile, I can't do that- I have to go back through General Discussion.

That weight range is in many ways ideal , think boxing, Hearns , Hagler, Duran , Leonard , watching those guys is how I fell in love with combat sports ( " The War was my 1st ppv) they are small enough to have great speed and endurance yet big enough to not look like liliputians and have true ko power .

Loved those fights. Read the book Four Kings I think it was called. Pretty good, had some interesting behind the scenes info.

I am no cat expert but wouldn't the cat still smell the food if its like 5 cm under its noise?

Going back and forth on Kahbib vs Barboza. The more I think about it, the more I lean towards Barboza. He's stylistically a tough match up for the grappler. I can see him doing a lot of stick and move, racking up points and frustrating Kahbib with footwork and boxing until he lands a big kick. What do you guys think?

I don't know if they can distinguish smell that close. The documentary chalked it up to their vision though. They do have good sense of smell in general.

Another thing is that they cannot hear lower tones as much as higher tones. So in general a high female voice would be more likely to be heard by a cat than the average male voice. I always talk girly when calling my cat from a distance. or whistle.

Cats and their owners also create a kind of private language. They kind of have a mutual understanding where one kind of meow or sound means they want to go out, they make make a different sound for food. Also, purring is often a form of begging or whining. They found that the same part of the brain is used as crying babies. They are trying to make you feel sorry for them or charm you. A purring cat often wants something from you. Like even if he sits on my lap and I want him off, him purring makes me less likely to do it. I dont want to disturb a purring cat, that is mean. He wants to sit there and knows purring will make me less likely to push him away.
