People with bad taste get shit on relentlessly regardless of whether they deserve it or not. Look at how badly Twilight was maligned in our culture despite the fact that it was really just a series of books that was unapologetic in its catering to tween girls. For that sin it was constantly parodied and its fans made fun of for years on end.

IIRC they actually hid his death for a while before going public with it.

I think he tried to lay claim to the title of caliph like Baghdadi except he was missing an eye which automatically disqualified him and that's not even going into the fact that he's not descended from the Quraysh and so on.

Yes he was dead for years though I never heard of the other part

How does missing an eye disqualify him from being caliph?

edit: being free from physical defects is a requirement but I thought that meant like congenital defects.
