I haven't followed the Bolivia issue too closely but I have always felt that if you're a Latin American leftist you have to be virtually unimpeachable and pristine in your character and history. Give the right one inch in that region and they'll take a mile with the full backing of expats in America(i.e. Miami) and probably the US government too.
