War Room Lounge v72: Nope

What are the chances we've been visited by intelligent space aliens?

I don't know that AI will be some magic technology that saves the environment.. maybe it will be. Hopefully, it will be. But just like machine guns and chemical weapons ended up being pretty high up on everyone's apocalyptic danger radar in 1920 but were pretty far down it by even the 1950s.. Global warming seems dangerous now but it's at most going to end up being the machine gun of the 21st century. If AI continues to mature, it will pose more of a potential danger than global warming. If energy technology develops and every redneck has an antimatter engine in his truck, that's going to be more of a potential danger than global warming. If genetic engineering continues to develop to the point that you can program new life like a video game, that's going to be more of a potential danger than global warming. Etc etc etc.

If pretty much just any avenue of any currently rapidly developing technology develops just a bit past what we have now, the potential danger of global warming is going to seem like nothing by comparison. If I had to guess, I'd guess that all these technologies will continue to develop but it doesn't take a genius to guess that maybe just one will. Moreover, all of them offer triival solutions to global warming anyways; AI will be smart enough to make an intelligent solution, genetic engineering means we can just make a carbon eating germ thingy, and development of energy technology is.. well, green energy.

If global warming really does end up being the big thing that we have to worry about then the 21st century is going to be easy peasy lemon squeezy. I doubt that it will be though and all the alarmists getting super paranoid about it seem closed minded and unintelligent to me. Save your paranoia; other things that are going to happen in the 21st century probably need its attention more.
That post was not a dig at you. Your statement was merely an example for a totally different point I was making. Sorry, I should have disclaimed. As for this screed, when you've watched the world do pretty much nothing despite constant warnings for the past 50 years, it's not closed minded to believe drastic action is needed and waiting for a technological miracle to save our arses because we have other issues to deal with is not going to do the job.

Hmm, no. But on the topic of old currency, I'm sure @Gandhi could regale you with a story about getting glass bottles of Coca Cola for a nickel.

Monopoly money , can’t give that shit away. I do remember getting in the bus for only a dime when I was a wee wippersnapper.

What's the over/under on how many people will whine if we continue on this topic? I get a kick out of it. I remember saying I would quit smoking when cigarettes hit $2. Now they're $20. The corner store near my old elementary school had candy that was 5 for a penny.

Remember cap guns for for a quarter? Those rolls that would always get tangled up as you fired your pistol machine gun style?

I will always remember Kamala Harris on her way to high school, I knew she would be a problem later in life. Always agitating, always trying to buy votes for class president, yet always the prefect with those funny sweaters playing hall monitor. I laid in wait behind the bushes, she entered my kill zone, I pounced and opened fire. And the caps went off their rails again. She lived..............

I love the smell of sulfur in the morning.

Trump is lashing out like a spoiled child in order to divert attention (e.g. by calling for an arrest for treason of the leader of the Senate Intelligence Committee).

The insane thing is that it is working. Media is reporting on his outlandish attacks. Hilarious.

Just saw this. Michael Grant always looked like an action hero on the tv to me too lol.

Funny thing too about Michael Grant is that he was hands down the nicest pro fighter I met. Helpful, took pics with anyone. Very, very down to earth dude. Whereas I met Cuba Gooding Jr. because he came for about a week one time and was completely full of himself lol.

If you guys missed south park season opener, worth the watch. Mexican joker, and converting Mexican kids to Jews to get them out of concentration camps. Fucking hilarious.

South Park blows. There, I said it.

You also said "Corner Gas" is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, so it's not shocking that you hate something that is actually funny.

Checks out

@Drunken Meat Fist

Turns out, it's you that rots. There's all kinds of poetic rationalization about returning to the earth or whatever comes before it, pick your poe's-on, but there wasn't a questing knight or a spymaster, wasn't ever a rustic kabin in the woods. The hatchet, it didn't matter, didn't care about your neck or resting in the dirt. It was all and will always be addictions, coercive clubs, phony honor, ass kissing, all the stuff that's rationalized.

I know you lost it years ago, and maybe you don't need the kick in the ribs, but you're getting it. It's phony enough that saying it's phony isn't enough. There's no poetry, because there can't be.

It's just the dirt and the patch you'll eventually lay down on. No raven on the mad bust, no pilgrim shadow, no sepulcher by the sea. Just a pile of excuses for a pile of failures. And that's your legacy.

Cheers.

Hey bud, nice plat!

Any Better Call Saul fans here?

The shitty taste of the average person never fails to shock me. Despite BCS being really, really, really good, it's getting pretty shit ratings.

It doesn't even make any sense, given that the show got off to a faster start than Breaking Bad.

I've always said though, I wish we could all personally choose where our tax money goes. We should have a ballot during elections or whatever where you could choose what you want your tax dollars going to. Let the people decide. Do you support more healthcare? Vote all your money into that. Do you support welfare? Put all your money into that? Do you support both? G0 50/50 and so forth.
In a representational democracy, you do vote for where your tax money goes, only in a very roundabout way

Gonna have to side with Lead here. I don't get it.

I also don't get Chipotle. Like...at all. It's nowhere near as good as sit-down Mexican, and the food doesn't have the variety or fast food junkiness of Taco Bell.
The good thing about Chipotle is that it can be one of the healthier choices as far as fast food goes. A burrito bowl with chicken and veggies is fairly clean, esp. if you skip the dairy and go easy on the rice.

Ugh, that is pretty depressing. If you go by the complaints in here though, a lot of folks find it "boring", and want it to be a carbon copy of "Breaking Bad", and that's pretty much where the complaints begin and end.

I can, we can even meet up for dinner one day in the great north Mr. Diamond....

We're still talking about grading banknotes, right? As opposed to, say, cuts of beefcake?

It's among my top 10, if not top 5 ever. There's even a case that it may be better than BB.

Globally, BCS is streaming mostly on Netflix, so US figures don't really matter there too much.
