I respect your energy and presence on these boards but make no mistake me and you are at odds when it comes to politics and i won't be finding much to agree with. It's not a "left lounge." Everyone is welcome. Just seems to attract a higher caliber of poster, which makes some of the lesser posters uncomfortable. And I think it's more that there simply are no examples of Starman holding his own in a serious discussion. I believe that there are objective judgments that we can all make that are separate from tribalism (might take effort at times to get there). For example, in the example I gave, you might think that non-Social Security forms of gov't spending are bad or you might think they are good, but objectively, it's still not true that the SS trust fund was "raided" to pay for them. The complication here might be that if you believe in objective truth and that observation and logic are tools we can use to get closer to it, you're essentially already a liberal and on the outs with the right in America.

I rate movies on several different metrics/standards.

There are some films that are absolutely brilliant with engaging, believable characters with a coherent script...or sometimes a film speaks to you...or is able to emotionally ensnare you.

I put Leaving Las Vegas in this category. However, movies like this I have only seen maybe 2 or 3 times because they are depressing.

Very similar to Precious, fantastic film but only seen it once.

Whereas Faceoff and Con Air, stupid, loud but enjoyable...and I've seen these about 500 times..
