Clear case of "That's not a bug, it's a 'feature'"
Makes you miss the day of the hanging and dimpled chads

If you guys had seen the face on the guy who won, you'd understand why he needed shady machines:

And, considering he's a fucking Mississippi Republican, I'm going to guess his personality is no saving grace.

Is it weird that my folks want me to let them know when I get home from work? Like, shoot them a text when I leave the office and another when I get home.... I live in Utah and they're in Washington so other than calling people I know here to look for me dead on the side of the road there isn't a whole ton they can do for me.
Their nest probably feels very empty right now ;)

You have a good chance of proving ballot removal or tampering if procedure is followed. You would need many witnesses and a real conspiracy.

You have no chance of proving a good hack of an election machine. The vulnerability of these machines has been demonstrated time and again.

If it runs, it can and will be cracked. So rely on electronic ballots as an addon for cross-reference, but getting rid of paper ballots is a big no-no. Even the theoretical possibility that there is electoral fraud and the virtual impossibilty of proving it should ring alarm bells with anyone who believes in democracy .

How old are you?

I think it's a bit weird but not unheard of. You are their only kid I take it? And they are worried about your well-being.

I'd still try to limit myself to 1-2 calls a week if I were you.

30, 31 in October.

Yes to only child, also... mom had two miscarriage prior to me so I kinda get it.

I'll keep telling them since it's what they'd like me to do though.

My parents get a call every week or two.

I've never used one. I always use the paper ballots that you insert into the electronic barrel deal.

Same. Black sharpie you draw a line across person's name was how it worked at my place in wisconsin. Will see how this goes in IL here. I like the idea that mine have a paper backup for a handcount if it came to it.

I just remember a vid like the two above of someone not able to click Bernie and it clicking Hilary and a certain branch of people online going nuts about it being a conspiracy.

If the roles were reversed, I'd assume you were trying to figure out how much time you had to yank it before they got home.

Follow-up on this: would you tell them when you are going to the supermarket late? Or when you take a detour from work to go out to have a beer with a colleague? Or when you go out partying?

There's a fine line between soothing the parents' worries and remaining in their circle of influence too much. One of the main benefits of your move is becoming independent, which you cannot become if you don't have some degrees of freedom. And the lay psychologist in me tells me that the fact that you were willing to move far away may also tell something about your wish to become more independent..no?
