Yes. Looks interesting but the lack of Coen Bros involvement is worrying.

Ed: If you're talking about the revisiting, I hadn't seen that. Interesting. Thanks.

WTF on some of those initial reviews?

"(Insofar as the movie is about anything, it's about the interface of bowling and Orthodox Judaism.)."
The shit people read into movies and TV shows now is utterly fucking stupid. A lot of it reads like someone went in with a bias and molds the movie by cherry picking to fit this bias they have of being persecuted or pushing an agenda.

Mad Max Fury Road with the bitching about Furiosa
At least the first season of Punisher caught flack for the ultra-violence and shit in it (especially what Frank does to Billy on the carousel)

And a bunch of other shit.

Was it who I thought brought them up?

I need to watch the 3rd one again

It's not even disputable to anyone that has a remote knowledge of policy. The entirety of the GOP's ranks have sold their souls and gone fully in on corruption and actively sabotaging the country for pecuniary gain. There are no longer any Republicans with principles, let alone coherent and productive policies.

You're expecting me to agree with the point that Republicans at ALL levels of government (local, State, Federal) fit into this idiotic box you're putting them in?

Again, that's idiotic . . .

Oklahomans spoke up and demanded more funding for education. Our Republican Governor worked with state leaders to pass a budget that included more money for education at all levels. They're also going to be working on a new health plan for the state when the next session begins.

Oklahoma also passed legislation that made simple drug possession a misdemeanor instead of a felony. While the legislation isn't perfect it's a move in the right direction in the eyes of many.

So yes . . . it's a stupid opinion that is most definitely disputable.

I don't know the poster. Something about "they".

Call this an overreaction but I honestly believe half the crap spewn about jews in this forum should warrant bans.

Disagree with that last point. It was a widespread perception that was based on the idea that Bernie was further from the median voter. I think conventional wisdom about electability is highly questionable and not something to be relied on (which is different from saying that it is known to be wrong), but I think that a lot of people don't track research on the subject and genuinely believe it. That is, we really don't know (even in retrospect) which of Clinton or Sanders was more electable, but I think that people on both sides of the issue could be acting in good faith, and had plausible, though weak, reasons for believing what they did.

I think the "further from the median voter" line is inaccurate and problematic on its own.

I think the obvious context of the claim was all Republicans that would be potential presidential candidates, with the farthest you could stretch it being all Republicans in federal office.

Yes, I concede that there might be some Republican head of government for Buttfuck, North Dakota, whose only job is making sure the snowplow guy doesn't get too drunk on nights when a big snow is expected might be more generally palatable to the median voter than a New York-seated female senator.

I don't have any opinion on Cory Booker, but man, could you imagine if Rosario Dawson was FLOTUS?

Sure. I made the point myself that the ideological gap between the candidates was much smaller than people appreciated (more of a tactical gap). But the perception was still there--among supporters and opponents of both candidates. So we're back to the point not necessarily being right, but being something that can be believed in good faith and with some cause.

Well ethnic/racial slurs are 100% not allowed here, and that includes the use of triple parentheses. Even sarcastically. It's a blanket ban.

I'm out of the loop. What's the triple parentheses thing about?

She can fuck off for leaving the Defender characters high and dry.

Well, straight from Wiki:

Triple parentheses or triple brackets, also known as an echo, are an antisemitic symbol that has been used to highlight the names of individuals of a Jewish background, or organizations who are thought to be owned by Jewish people. The practice originated from the alt-right blog The Right Stuff; the blog's editors have explained that the symbol is meant to symbolize that the historic actions of Jews caused their surnames to "echo throughout history".[1] The triple parentheses have been adopted as an online stigma by antisemites, neo-Nazis, and white nationalists to identify individuals of Jewish background as targets for online harassment, such as Jewish political journalists critical of Donald Trump during his 2016 election campaign.[2][3]

Use of the notation was brought to mainstream attention by an article posted by Mic in June 2016.[4][5] The reports also led Google to remove a browser extension meant to automatically place the "echo" notation around Jewish names on web pages,[5]and the notation being classified as a form of hate speech by the Anti-Defamation League.[4] In the wake of these actions, some users, both Jews and non-Jews, have intentionally placed their own names within triple parentheses as a sign of solidarity.[6]
