That actually is hilarious.

So it isn't a game where you take multiple days to go through it? Seems like turn based games like those would be rough sitting through at the same time. I get impatient enough with a game like risk. That seems fairly similar but way more strategy and time for each turn.
Probably easier to free Agedflatus than go through all of that.

Oh it is. We'd take about 4 or 5 sessions to finish a game on average I think. Find some Saturday or Sunday afternoon none of us had anything going on for and day drink through it. Civ has an online speed setting which cuts the production and science development times in half vs normal.

Each time we'd be ready to start a new one Palis would talk a bunch of shit, no show the 1st day, then talk a bunch of shit as we played through about how he'd beat us if he was in it.

Eventually we started a new chat without him because it was obvious he was just ghosting the games

To be fair, I think this is the right route to go with any online gaming. Even when you know you suck at the game, it makes the entire thing way funnier. I haven't done gaming for about 10 years now but I remember one summer having Xbox live and the people on there made me laugh so hard the amount of shit they would talk. I'd always find a group where they'd keep trying to cut the most annoying mouthy guy out of the room but I'd keep inviting him back.

I don't know how Civ works but I'd try to Kamikaze the biggest shit talker just for the laughs.

Dammit! It's the principle!

@Curmudgeon seems like a wiser and much more refined version of @AgeFlatus though. One who has come to understand the line of acquiring likes and avoiding trouble all while still upholding the angry old man yelling at a cloud persona. This is something @AgedFlatus couldn't do. He did save the WR's democracy however with the @AgedFlatus ruling which affirmed citizenship could not be revoked once granted in an election.

lol, dick.

Consumed so much flesh today in celebration of Canada Day....

R.I.P. @Lord Commander Palis
You're a great American! God Bless!

He PM'd me this morning; just seeing it now. It was vague so I don't know if it was because of the comment I made about him in the lip filler thread or if he thinks I reported him. FTR, I didn't report him, I've only reported 1, maybe 2 people since I've been on this board. The one I recall was for overt racism. If you see him at Sunday School, too, let him know I didn't report him.

He continuously waited out yellows and would just go back to the same offenses right after. If a poster gets carded for something again and again, their status doesn’t reset just because the cards expired. He caused issues in more places than the WR as well.

I hope he gets allowed back eventually under a different name. It is a good tradition among WR presidents.

Be patient Mr. Dragon. The longer the molting process the tighter the body becomes.... It's a requirement towards the ascension protocol....

Whoa, 66% of WR presidents have been banned since taking office. A heavy burden indeed.

I'll make sure to tag you a bunch when I finally get Wai to snap completely

He's not really the kind to lash out in anger. He's more from the stock of watching from a dark corner, masturbating using his own tears as lubricant.

I think job losses in the short term are possible (and job losses take place because of a bunch of different things, mind you), but I doubt they're massive in scale. That's just not how technology has been integrated into the economy thus far.

When new technologies are truly ground breaking, usually what you see is the early adopters gradually gaining an advantage over their competitors until those are either forced to change or go out of business, and that happens over a fairly long period. Kodak went bankrupt 20 years after consumer digital cameras first became available, for example. LAN centers are still a thing even though the vast majority of people have internet connections that can handle online gaming.

This theoretical mass layoff where a bunch of employers suddenly go "you're all fired, wellcome your new robot overlords" has just never happened. Like I mentioned before, the uniformity principle is flawed (just because something has never happened before doesn't mean it will never happen in the future), but it still leads me to ask for some VERY tangible evidence, like X technologies can be mass implemented as early as the year YYYY and will result in the direct loss of Z jobs.
Clearly, we'll need to wait and see how it pans out, but I think it is dumb to not even plan for the possibility. The 40% of all jobs being automated number comes from a study. I'll find a source for it when I have time and we can see what it's based upon and what the timeline is. For all I know it could be one of those "far off enough I'll be dead before everyone finds out I made shit up" but I just don't think so.
