I think "Spartacus" probably made one of best turnarounds of any series. Those first few episodes were painfully bad. Melodramatic garbage, that just made you cringe the whole way through. Looked cheap as hell, too. It was like watching an hour long terrible music video. It found it's footing though after those rough beginnings, and it never looked back. I had no problem with the new guy either. Although, I never found Whitfield to be all that impressive in the first place. I think what made that show were the villains and the supporting cast. They made the most of that green screened series. It was like watching a very good play.

Agreed on Spartacus.

I thought the show was pretty terrible the first couple of episodes and I only started watching it because I ran out of great shows to binge watch.

I wonder if new writers took over after episode 2 or 3. the character development took full swing, and you emotionally invested in several of them, like Crixus (sp?)

Season 1 was 8/10. the guy who replaced the original Spartacus did a fair job, but it just wasn't the same.

I agree with JVS on that as well, at the very least Seyfried was prettier in the movie itself if not since then and even Regina George confirmed that.
Seyfried is much prettier than Chabert. I prefer her to McAdams as well.
I agree with these guys. Also, Salma Hayek is close to GOAT status imo.

I like The Wire alright, but it’s like it was written for people with short term memory loss. There’s no subtlety. And it’s sad that it’s probably the most realistic police procedural I’ve seen, since they don’t get much right.

The whole episode shows how irrational cynicism degrades people morally. Any other major campaign, Republican or Democrat, would immediately report that kind of thing, and if it got out would publicly denounce the people trying to help them. I don't even think that Trump and Co. see themselves as particularly sleazy (Stone and Manafort excepted). They just think that everyone's doing that kind of thing so it's normal. That's the same as Wohl or James O'Keefe. They think that the kind of stuff they do is normal and wonder what the big deal is.
The hypothesis that they never intended to win fits. Break the rules? It only matters if they win.

Audrey and Phoebe, imo.

Ever notice that Phoebe doesn't know what to do with her mouth in still pictures? Serious, google image her with that in mind.

Never watched GoT but I was thinking about getting into it since its wrapping up and I wouldn't have to wait between seasons but if the last season is shit that is a real turn off.

You should definitely give it a watch. Seasons 1-4 were solid 10/10 television. Up there with the best ever and I wouldn't fault anyone full on placing it at the top of their list. 5-7 there's some downslide from like a 9 to 6 or 7, and then season 8 hit and confirmed our worse fears and is a 5.

But when you're used to a 10 and hoping to see that return for the final glorious season they took over a year and a half to make and a had a massive budget, getting a 5 is supremely disappointing.

Go ahead and watch and enjoy, then just roll with and accept whatever ending we're about to get. The early seasons are still worth it and really if you could wrap up the war of 5 kings, that can be enough resolution on its own.

Don't get me started on the Sopranos. , that show was bad.

Interesting fact about that gif. The character who played Olivia abruptly died during the filming of season 3 so they had to cut and past footage from season 1 to make her and Tony's last scene together. The gif is cut and pasted in more ways than one

I still kind of get it, you don't really need to go to university to learn what they teach in the humanities and social sciences if you just dedicate yourself to reading the relevant material

Not sure what the connection is there, the US (last time I checked) isn't even in the top 10 of stem grads per capita - are they saying south korea, Germany, Sweden, France of democracy issues?

It's not just college grads it's the underfunding at the HS level and demeaning of the field in general.

I don't really know enough about those countries to have an opinion but Le Pen did give Macron a good race in the last election.

I believe SK actually went from hardliners to doves recently (hence the negations with NK) but that was mainly fueled by a huge scandal with the prior president being arrested for corruption

Not sure how any of that relates to a decline or perils in democracy.

I also watched the first ep of Philip K Dick‘s Electric Dreams on Amazon Prime and it was quite good.
That's on my (extremely long) list of shows I plan to get to eventually. That guy is one of my literary heroes.

I'm not crazy to say the old school Twilight Zone is top ten for sure, am I? There are so many clever, disturbing and well acted episodes with new cast for every episode (for the most part). That's pretty impressive.
Not crazy at all. One of the best shows ever.

My fan theory

Aspect of a fan theory that's worth maybe talking about. Arya's brown eyes (Freys imo), blues eyes (clearly night king) and the yet to be green eyes....

Both Emilia Clarke and Lena Hedey have green eyes. And the show isn't using purple contacts for the targaryens like they initially tried.
