Dude. Yes, but the new territory wasn’t suitable for the same type of agriculture as the Deep South. What both economies wanted was what the transcontinental railroad was going to bring with it. The Confederacy was not going to utilize the same methods in the new states as in the current ones.
Lincoln was willing to accept the status quo to avoid bloodshed between Americans, but he was certainly not willing to let slavers spread out all over the country, and rightly so.
The fight was between the North who wanted to spread industrialization and the South who wanted to spread slavery... right?
