I know I read about the separation anxiety thing in Beagles when I was looking up info on them.

Yeah, I grew up with Akitas and Chester my last one (that was posted all over the Plat forum and Heavies for a 6 month span) could get dog aggressive in the sense he had to prove he was the "alpha" all the time. With people he'd get aggressive trying to lick your face and tackle you. The one before that acted like a damn cat and actually tended to avoid people and dogs in favor of finding a cool spot to nap in.

Guess I'll just get a Chocolate or Black English lab then.

Go to the shelter and find the one dog you have a connection with. They often dont look like the one you picture yourself with. Or, perhaps, fate will intervene at the right time and place and a dog will just show up.

You may be walking through a shopping area and see a hungry stray. Someone you know has to move and cant take their dog. You never know.

You aren't "buying" a dog. You are looking for a lifetime friend.

And we find the best friends in the weirdest places. Sometimes when they are at their lowest point. If you adopt from a shelter I guarantee that dog knows it and will love you like no puppy mill dog ever could. When you save a dog from starvation, take them to the vet after being hit by a car, or adopt them when they are on death row... they know.

I realize that. I just grew up with two Akitas at two separate times in my life and have 3 friends that have Malamutes and I love them all.

My plan would be to go to a shelter and "browse" (can't think of a better word) through the larger dog looking for arctic/snowdog type dogs.

Why? Everyone fucking adopts the little barky shits instantly, labs and goldies are usually picked up quick too... the ones that get screwed are the terrier type dogs and snowdogs. Terriers because of their reputation and snowdogs cause everyone loves them as a puppy but then they become like 150lbs.
